What kind of mileage are you guys getting from your VRS front tyres?

Mines a diesel and they are getting close to the limit at 12k.

Mines only a 2.0TDi 140 and I'm only getting around 10k on my Goodyear Excellences (205/55/R16) :o I blame it on the really sh!tty road surfaces around our town and on the hills in and out I use every day :(

( edited to keep xyster happy ;) )

I have just moved my fronts to the rear because they are a few mm from the wear mark and I have done 32k on them and since I bought the car 2nd hand, the tyres were already on so I don't know how many miles they had done with the previous owner.

7k from my first set from new (I blame it on just being new so I behaved like a hooligan)

second set now over 8 and still look like they have plenty of life left in them..I reckong 10-12 out of these ones

first set were conti sport 2's current ones are conti sport 3's and have been excellent and would get the same again no hesitation

and I am in a petrol vrs

I got 21k out of the front ones on mine, they where conti's.

its looking increasingly like I should be ashamed by my driving :D

I got 6.5k out of my factory-fit Dunlops, 17-18k out of Michelin PS3's...

This thread needs to be comparing like for like or it is misleading. You cannot compare Conti sport 3's on a petrol vrs to 10k on un named tyres on a 140 derv.

I have had a few sets on the front of my vRS 170 tdi.

1) Goodyear assymetrics just over 3000 miles (and no I don't drive like a loon) £105 at time in 2008

2) Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's around 7000 miles. £106 at time in 2009

3) Kumho KU31 around 8000 but still had about 1/3rd to go so guess at 12000 miles £75 (camskill £65 with £10 fitting locally) last year and the replacements are about the same, KU39's

4) Uniroyal Rainsport 2's just fitted.

The Kumho were the cheapest and I could not tell any difference between the 3 for performance so planned to stick with them. I have just had to take them off the front as there appears to be a fault with the treads so will hold my opinion until sorted.

Basically the Tdi 170's do get through front tyres quite quickly in my experience at least. So you either drive it around like the local vicar (in which case actually just sell it and buy a tdi 90 bhp) or decide whether to pay £150 each for Contis and get a few more miles or cheaper but still good performing tyres and get around 8-10k

You can't make assumptions on how anyone drives their car unless they specifically state what their usual driving style is. A PD 140 might be driven harder than some one plodding around in a vRS. .

I think the valid comparison is that both cars have high torque. Both cars have a very heavy front end. Both cars have the same suspension geometry (largely).

A car driven by a rep who spends his life on the M-Way will have vastly better tyre life than a taxi driven around a town. My last taxi ride was in an Octy and the cabbie was moaning about the high tyre wear so now he just buys the cheapest he can get as he needs to change them every 3-4 months!

I buy Goodyear Excellences as the car came fitted with them and I found them to be, well . . excellent! Very good in the dry. Very good in the wet. They just dont last that long. I'd rather have confidence in the rubber than worry about the life of them. It's mine and my families life I'm concerned about.

I do concur that the Uniroyal Rainsport are superb. I've had them on previous Golfs and loved them. I just can't get them locally at a decent price and the GY's are almost as good but cheaper.

Mine are Uniroyal rainsport 2 on a 170 tdi and I drive in london and on the motorway

About 10k on factory fitted Dunlops.

Gentle driving would have got more I'm sure.

About 8500 on the factory fit Dunlops, about 18K on the Vredstein Sessantas and 15K so far on the Pirelli P Zero Rosso which are now down to 3mm so due for replacement...

13K on OEM Contis so far.

And why would you do that???

And why would you do that???

Because i don't wait for tyres to get to the legal limit before I replace them...

Mines a 2011 on factory Conti's.

I'm doing on average 60% motorway driving I suppose, maybe 12k isn't so bad after all?!

Mines a 2010 Octy Vrs TDi CR factory fitted Conti sport 2's 9500miles plenty of tread left on em, dont drive like a loon (much :) ) and dont drive it like ahearse either, fairly general mix of motorway, dual carriageway, country, urban and A roads.

Mine are Uniroyal rainsport 2 on a 170 tdi and I drive in london and on the motorway

Me too

Uniroyal Rainsports all round (225/40/x18)

Best tyre ever made.

I got 19/20K from the fronts, which were the factory fit sport contact 2.

I'm on ff conti 2s on my vrs tdi estate and they've done 16000miles at the mo, that's with a lead foot too :giggle: . Looking to replace them pretty soon as I've got a couple of long drives coming up. Conti 3s going on as soon as I've got a free weekend.

Just got my new front tyres today, oem tyres were michelin primacy's done 30,000 on them so very happy and fitted michelin sport 3's and filled with nitrogen just for the hell of it.

So you moved the fronts with a few mm to the rears and put the rears on the front because it has more tread? yeh best of luck on that mate, seriously bad move, always put the new tires on the rear. ;)

Sorry quote wrong person :giggle:

I got rid of the original continentals ask they were just so noisy with 11,000 on them. Chained to pirelli P zero neros and whilst the Tyres were great for cornering and noise they were done after 8,000.

Now have uniroyal rainsport 2 Tyres on ever since an aquaplaning moment. I tend to 18,000 miles of spirited driving from the fronts and 35,000 from the rears. They are superb in the wet and pretty damn good in the dry and at £100 a corner an absolute bargain

Do you ever find the Rainsports sidewall very soft??

They only issue I've had with the sidewall is when the psi is slightly down. So long as they hard they seem fine.

Tbh tho I dint think it would matter what tyre you had on if you throw the heavy vrs at a corner the sidewall would have some give
