Octavia Buying Advice

Featured Replies

All good spots. Can't see any other bits. Another extra was the multi-function s/wheel, but no great loss. Few scrapes on the NSF alloy; seems to be shod all-round with decent Conti SP3s. One of the best colours for the Octy2 as well, IMO....

Don't know what they mean by 'iPod preparation' though. As this won't have the Stream MP3 with an Aux socket, and even that isn't really 'preparation'. Worth checking, if you proceed with this one.

Are you specifically looking for a DSG model?

EDIT: missing OSF tyre dust cover. And what's the lead running down from the centre of the dash??

Yes, I'd noticed the scrape on the alloy too- but I can live with that given that it's nearly 6 years old :)

Multifunction steering wheel - not bothered :)

DSG is merely personal preference.

Can live without, though cheapest manual I can find is £8490. However, that is for an 07 plate Elegance....

No idea what iPod Prep is - not worried - though I will ask :)

And yes, what is that cable... that thought had crossed my mind also.

I'm thinking that cable might be 'iPod preparation' - joining the dots together :)

Good thinking that man!

It technically isn't, and it's not been prepared very well if it has - just trying to apply dealer logic ;)

That other Elegance looks decent, but only if you want a manual. Has most of the extras, although you could get the Elegance with the Sports suspension and 17" Pegasus (like mine had). But extras like PDC, auto lights, cruise, Maxidot etc are present.

A number of dealers have been known to call the aux input 'iPod Prep' or 'iPod Ready'. The car has a Stream headunit which doesn't support MDI so unless the previous owners have installed an aftermarket adapter it'll be the aux input.

Won't even have an AUX input on a 55-plate though, not unless it's been retro-fitted.

I believe 07 models and newer had aux sockets?

Correct, when the Stream was replaced with the Stream MP3.

  • Author

Hmm MP3 would be nice, but that would mean buying an 07 model.

Think I'd rather spend the money on a new HU before spending on a newer car...

That way I could have some change to get some speakers too... :D

Unit is exactly the same, just that it accepts CDs with MP3 files burnt onto them. And just into the HU slot, not the CD changer. Plus you get the AUX socket obviously.

Not a deal-breaker, I'd agree. You want a Bolero or Columbus in there anyway :)

I had a Bolero before, that was a brilliant HU

:)

So why did you change to a Fabia again? ;)

Here comes my sorry tale...

I had a 10 plate Octavia vRS and decided it would be a nice idea to pay off the loan that was paying for it as I was no longer doing 25K+ miles a year having a new job.

I bought an Ibiza FR. Big mistake, it was awful compared to the Octavia, and I probably should have given it some more time.

In haste (and MUCH whinging at my wife) she said I could go get another car, as diesel was no longer a must have, I looked around and decided to try and nab a Fabia vRS new through VAT offer. Ended up buying my car second hand.

While the Fabia is a stunning little car, ultimately it just isn't big enough (I don't mean load space - for that it is perfect) - me and my wife are not "small" people and that is where the Fabia/Ibiza fails also.

So, yes, I've probably lost a few pounds in chasing depreciation, and yes I'd probably have been better off keeping the Octavia vRS and lumping the loan. It wasn't as if (and this is still the case) that we can't afford it and are struggling. We can save a 4 figure amount every month as we are generally living very frugally.

In fact, my Octavia is still on the forecourt of the garage I traded in my Ibiza/bought Fabia from... not too late :D LOL!

So yes, a silly few months of trading/buying cars has lead me to this thread :)

The ultimate issue here... I'm fickle.

I see. Fair enough and understandable. That all makes sense :)

So go and get your Octy back, with your current Fab as trade-in emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Well...

We were at the garage this morning getting my vRS looked at.

I said to my wife "My car is still on the forecourt, they've dropped the price again now"

She was like "Well, we could always get that again - you know exactly what miles are on it"

Watch this space... :D

I'd have to get a new loan to cover, but I'd be paying the same out that I do now, just for another 12 months on the end.......

Interesting....

That or I could get a Petrol one and go really nuts... they're a good 2K cheaper :|

Oh yes.

Before I had the Octavia vRS...

I had a Beige Octavia Elegance DSG 2.0 PreFL... I was more than happy to keep that. I'd just always had a long term dream of owning a vRS... Hence why I'd bought the vRS.

There was nothing wrong with my Beige one (other than the colour according to mrs. gorebrush) and in my defence - I bought that for £9K when all other cars were £10K in different colours (and lots more mileage!) I'd bought mine 3 years old with 21K on it :)

Anyway

Would just like to say thanks for all the contributions I've had in this thread :)

No worries; happy hunting emoticon-0103-cool.gif

As ever, there are always numerous options. Just comes down to how much you want to shell out :D

Definitely - always lots of options. :)

lol.. If your not strapped for cash and your enjoying what you are doing then keep doing it  .

There's quite a few cars that I would like to own (even if just for a short while) and thats what I was thinking with selling my Octavia. Only spend about £2000 on a car, run it for a few months and sell it and get something else, there would be very little depreciation and if I did it right I wouldn't have to bother with TAX/MOT's/Servicing as I would buy shop around for the right deal B)

In all honesty, I was happy with my Citroen Xsara Exclusive until I test drove a mk1 Octavia vRS and found this site, its been all downhill since then :giggle:

If all else fails I've still got a Fabia vRS..... :D
