auto folding door mirrors

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Read a few threads but still not sure of the answer. Can the car (Superb Elegance) be set to auto fold the door mirrors on closing rather than pressing and holding the key fob for a few seconds.

So many settings, so little time!

Thanks everyone

That would be sweet!

I would like to have that too :)

Can it be done with VCDS?

(you all know you can press and hold the lock button for a few seconds when you lock the car to fold the mirrors?) but I want them to fold by just press once and when using KESSY...

Yes please see #1

Cannot be done, you are stuck with having to press and hold the button.

lol, its really not that much hassle!

Yes it is. Specially when it does not work with Kessy, I don't want to use the remote, ever :)

Sorry for my earlier post by not reading the first post :)

I can see the advantages of KESSY for a woman with a handbag, but I just wouldnt want to be driving along with a key in my pocket anyway. So my key hole gives it somewhere to go nice and securely for me to remove and walk away with when I leave the car.

Rather than something else to leave behind as I take my phone and wallet out my pockets and leave behind as it is!

Why would you want the mirrors to fold every time anyway? In over 2 months I only "needed" them folded once when parking on a narrow street so pushing the button was no problem. I know a Ford that has goosed one of it's "fold every single time mirrors" in 3 years. That's not really what the mirror motors are built for IMO.

What do you mean they are build for? ;-)

Presume he means that the motors aren't designed to be used all the time, only every now and then. Using them constantly could (and in the Ford case, did) cause them to fail.

Saying that, if that is the case then the motors are not fit for purpose. You may need to fold them everytime to get your car into a garage for example. My Dad has to flip his mirrors on his Disco 3 to put into the garage, once he's past the door frame he pops them back out again.

Sorry if this seems like a Newbie question, but can someone explain this "press the key fob" thing. I picked my car up today and the dealer didn't mention this. I was told to swivel the control stick on the door into the "fold" position.

Press and hold the lock button for a couple of seconds. :)

I wish I had an option on my Octavia. Where I park at work it's on a side street and I have to manually put my mirrors in. Even my wife's Jazz has a button on the dash

My first Superb was in use 6 days a week for 6 years, mirrors had to be folded in and out twice a day to get in and out of garage+ when parking, never had any mirror failure. Second Superb 2 years again no mirror problem, latest Superb only 9 months no problem.

Mind you they were lubricated about every 6 months. No electrical or mechanical device is 100% perfect forever, the only item that has failed is on the latest vehicle, the Columbus screen decided to only show vertical coloured lines.

They are more likely to fail if they are never used. I have a big garage so I don't have any problems, I just like the look of folded mirrors when the car is parked, and I use my KESSY so I don't want to press the lock button on the remote ;-)

Sorry guys, I know I must be being thick here, but my car refuses to fold the mirrors when I hold down the lock button. It will happily fold them using the control stick on the door, but I've tried various combinations of holding the lock button, and nowt. Even tried holding the unlock button, but then all the windows drop.

As I say, sorry to labour a question, but any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

And mine used to fold fine using the key, but now won't. Would value any suggestions!

Try holding down the unlock button on the keyfob to see if all the windows open. on my car when the mirrors fail to fold with the lock button I found one of the windows wasn't opening, just run the offending window down and up to reset it, and as if by magic, the mirrors start folding again. This has happened 3 times with my car once with the driver's window and twice with the nearside rear. Hope this helps

Lower and raise all the windows fully, this resets the system then press the key fob locking button for 2 seconds the mirrors should then fold again. The mirrors and windows are on a combined circuit and the failure to fold is a common occurance, many dealers do not know this fix.

Thanks for the advice guys. I've been fiddling with the various toys this morning and have now managed to get the mirrors to fold. Seems to work if I leave the control stick in the "0" position.

Thanks this solved the problem - one window wasn't closing whilst the engine was off, but with it on I was able to get all the windows to close, and now the mirrors fold again. Thanks ever so much both to you and to Sinclair.

I have not yet placed an order for a new Superb but I want the electric folding door mirrors. The only reference I have seen is that they will close when locking the vehicle presumably in the manner described by other forum members.

My requirement is to have the mirrors folded electrically so that I can drive into my garage without touching the garage door frames. Can somebody please advise if this is possible perhaps by pressing a button or something just as it is in my current Honda CRV.

Thanks

There is a position on the mirror control to fold them in and out .
