Uk Lack Of Options Outcry And Sourcing From Europe

Okay it's coming to a head now....

I wanted an RS, prefered it's interior feel and exterior styling, but I prefered the mechanical nature of the 4x4 and found one at a good price ;). Okay, so seeing a pic ( It's black, has MAD landing gear ) I ask myself can you get vRS trim in cloth bamboo style as per the afore mentioned black mad bomber from Holland in the UK?

NO

Okay any ideas on how and how much a set of vRS Cloth trim in grey/grey or grey/black (not overly fussed) would be sourced from a Eurodealer, say one in Calais? And would I be able to said set back as luggage on easy yet if dealer was say in Holland?

What differences are there in terms of Euro Spec seats and UK spec's, apart from amybe air bags been on the wrong side...

Anybody in Euroland care to ask on my behalf what set of vRS cloth fronts would be (recarro shopping cart filling up)

Sort of trying to keep a stock look for as long as possible, thus cloth rs seats sounds good...how would one keep them clean though...;)

Next stop Seat dealers for cupra type R seat demo.

AFAIK the UK spec vRS does not have airbags in the seats themselves. Or heating...

Euro one does I thought...or estate does, not to fussed about side airbags; what was wrong with drum brakes...

It might be possible to swap the seat back covers left for right so that the airbag 'patch' is on the correct side.

Then it will be on the inside of the car... Not too smart to knock out your passenger with your airbag :D

colin, the inveterate tinkerer.........

many hours disappeared into the ether talking to colin about various plans of mine to make a 300bhp 4x4 in an RS stylee.

good to see you keeping true the tradition matey! :)

Pay attention, Q! Seat covers - not seats. eek.gif

Colin, my seats have side airbags and heating because those come with the 4x4 Elegance spec. I expect that the "Sport" package, as it's called here, is also available for non-Elegance cars. It will be the same price, however... 425 euros. Can't see how RHD would have an effect on the seats. But yours is an Elegance-spec too, I presume?

So are you talking about full seats (and the leather sports wheel and gearshift) or just the cloth?

Will make a phone call to my dealer to see if the seats are available as an after-market install.

Doh, the seats of course. :D

You already have regular Bamboo Black seats, but you want Bamboo Black sports seats, just like mine. Yes?

Strangely enough a left seat is still a left seat, regardless of which side the steering wheel is on or am I missing something here?

The front seats on the RS have the same functionality regardless of whether it the driver's or passenger's

Oops... I blame lack of caffeine for that little mishap :boozer:

I was wondering the same thing as Jon; did start to reply then changed my mind.

Ho Hum.........

Jon, I thought you had me there. You could be right for more recent models, but not for 1997 models where LHD and RHD seats are listed. I can't be bothered to check other years.

1000th post wayhay, arh okay most cars I have owned do not, the elegance trim is good for driver, passenger gets no lumber support IIRC.

M. Sports pack, cloth seats yes, maybe steering yoke and yes I mean yoke as I pull up so hard when I'm following Ian "biggles" tavia4x4.

Thanks in advance for the call to the dealer...cloth sports seats should be listed in the UK for non leather lovers, my partner is a vegie and whilst tolerant of me eating a steak, she's not so happy about a full leather seat, unless the mechanical advantage far out weighs the leather, so I guess she could be talked into a TVR. Thanks for the input...

whaddya mean "biggles"? lol

Same here - can't see why RHD would make a difference.

If Colin's 4x4 is Elegance-spec, which I trust it is, he will have side airbags and heating (that is, if the UK Elegance spec complies with the Dutch one). It would be a simple seat swap, I presume. Same for steering wheel and gearshift.

Have contacted my dealer but the warehouse guy was unavailable. They will return my call.

Shouldn't be impossible though. Say if I had a really bad side-impact accident which would destroy one of the seats, they should have a spare one available. So it's just a matter of whether they want to sell a couple of seats without a car attached to it...

Can't say that about the driver seat too. My lanky frame was sliding to all sides when test driving a standard Elegance trim car.

Same here and for Clare (SO). She's just not comfey in the farmers seats....scooby seats maybe, Primera GT seats were good for her (DONT'T!).

No heating on the UK elegance spec, but the wires are there.

Or if you listen to a dealer about parking sensor retro fit: " can't be retro fitted without stripping the car down and replacing the wire looms" erm okay bye.

I'm guessing your on/off switch is pos 3 in the dash next to the Extra Scary/slidy Program button?

Yep, third button, next to the Extra-Sensory Perception button.

Colin, bad news from the continent...

The warehouse guy was extremely helpful in clawing through Skoda's parts system, but what he came up with is this:

- front seats: are in the catalogue but no price is listed, which means it is only available for replacement of damaged units

- rear seats: will set you back for a total of 832 euros ex VAT  (which probably means that the front seats would have easily topped that if they had been available - a bit too pricey IMO!)

- steering wheel: a no-no for export because of the airbag, may only be installed locally at the dealer.

Seems like the 425 euro price for the entire sports pack was a steal...

Sorry to disappoint you there :(

I have seen the figure of

Me? I'm not dissapointed :(

re steering wheel, understood, but it's a VAG com reset and thats about it, had mine of at point of chipping for cruise control retro fit.

425 euro isa steal, I suspect thats a cost difference between std and "sports", well the outcry continues, but mr recaro might benefit at christmas.

Thankyou for taking the time to enquire.

No Denis - that

2 x nice buckets

Agree totally Paul - if it wasn't under warranty there is NO WAY I would pay those sort of prices!
