Not a good weekend!

Featured Replies

As it says, it wasn't a good weekend!

One Yeti v VW Passat Estate = one dented Yeti :'( :'(

Going to see my son at the Biblins campsite in the Forest of Dean on Saturday.

Very narrow climbing single track road.

Dark blue/black Passat DRG approaching down hill passes passing place.

I stop and put handbrake on.

Passat doesn't stop and hits OS of car.

Dented wing, driver's door and rear door.

Owner of Passat then reverses back to let me out, as now jammed between me and bank, and admits he hit the accelerator not the brake!! :'(

Dozy old beggar has no details and can't remember who he is insured with so have to follow him back to his house in Doward to get details.

Now awaiting my insurance company to sort it all out, and we are supposed to be off to France on the 16th and have got to bring the caravan back. Luckily the car is driveable and actually doesn't look too bad. Better than his Passat did! :S

Tough Luck, Graham. I hope you get it soreted in time for your trip.

Bad luck Graham, hope you get it fixed soon.

Can you post a photo of the damaged side and I'll cry with you.. emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Ouch! That's bad. So many people appear to have no idea how to deal with our narrow Welsh roads and the banks mean you have nowhere to go if you're about to be hit. Similar thing happened to me a week after I got my 'new' Fabia, driver went past a passing place and then suddenly accelerated towards me - no escape!I thankfully just lost a wing mirror - the Ford Fiasco that hit me was driven by a girl who had only just passed her test - she got another driving lesson from me I can tell you!

That is bad luck indeed! Does make you wonder if they should take an Eye test though!

Hope your motor is repaired quickly and that they do a proper job!

Enjoyed those Welsh roads yesterday, as long as you observe basic ettiquette and look further than the end of your nose there is much to explore!

Yes,that's bad luck.

If my experience of having a rear bumper assembly fitted is anything to go by,you'll be lucky to get yours fixed inside a month.

You have more chance of being struck by lightning than getting another Yeti as a replacement vehicle.

I was loaned a Honda CRV ,but I wouldn't have liked to take it to France.

If your damage is "cosmetic ",and it drives OK, I'd set up the repair for my return from France.

Bon chance.......:)

Sorry to hear about your Yeti Graham, hope all's OK

No number of eye tests will allow for a numpty hitting the wrong pedal Nee

Sorry to hear about this Graham - SWMBO had a silly mare fast approaching her on a narrow road the other day, moved over to avoid a collision and put the car down a recently trimmed hedgerow - I was bloody livid with a few scratches down the side of her car, so I can understand how you're feeling

So sorry to read your news, especially as you did everything right and then came off the worse for wear. Around here it is usually the inexperienced holidaymaker who cause the most trouble as they fail to understand the simple etiquette of passing places and reversing.

Hope for a speedy repair so you can go to France OK.

Is there a prize, in the Yeti spotting post, for eyeing a bashed up Yeti??? Only Joking.

Very True

Maybe its me who need's the test :D

Hi Graham,

emoticon-0106-crying.gif to hear your Monsters been in the wars, hope you can get things sorted soon and enjoy your break in France.

Regards,

TP

Sorry to hear that. When I visited Pembrokeshire and Brecon Beacons on single tracks, some people drive like idiots, if there was a car coming from the other side, they would have no chance of avoiding it.

But hey, at least you live in a beautiful part of the country!

Sorry to learn your news Graham. Good luck.

Sorry about your prang but!

Come on chaps.. Welsh Roads??? The last time I looked the Bibblins was in Herefordshire

Unlucky Boyo ... still, sounds like less of a car crash than the Welsh rugby team :giggle:

Hope you get it fixed soon, and without too much hassle from the insurance companies.

Sorry to hear that Graham, I cant believe the near misses I have had on single track roads with poor visibility, I always drive with the head lights on to give some notice of me being on road, still get plenty of people screeching to a halt a foot away from my bumper when I have stopped, interesting point, a couple of years ago, I nearly got pranged in my VRS by a Yeti up Loch Rannoch on a single track. I was admiring the car as we passed each other ginergly!

Sorry to hear your bad news Graham.

Hopefully you can get it sorted soon.

Sorry to hear about your recent escapade. Luckily for you there is insurance, unlike those poor souls in Croydon and the rest of London who are not covered on their insurance for riots......

A bit off topic, but if you want to be legally pedantic, they are not riots as the Riot Act has not be read. They are nothing more than Civil Disobedience.

The edge of front wing has actually been pushed in about 1/2" just above the NEW mud flaps. Insurance have now rung and told me which garage is going to be doing it, which I am not all together happy about, and the hire car people have said I am too far out for them to deliver the car! :S

Ok, Ok.....I'll let you be pedantic whilst they trash my home town.....emoticon-0149-no.gif

Staying off topic a little, but Sec 1 Public Order Act 1986 would suggest that they would indeed be guilty of riot, as long as the numbers involved meet the criteria

Public Order Act 1986

Section 1 - Riot

(1) Where 12 or more persons who are present together use or threaten unlawful violence for a common purpose and the conduct of them (taken together) is such as would cause a person of reasonable firmness present at the scene to fear for his personal safety, each of the persons using unlawful violence for the common purpose is guilty of riot.

(2) It is immaterial whether or not the 12 or more use or threaten unlawful violence simultaneously.

(3) The common purpose may be inferred from conduct.

(4) No person of reasonable firmness need actually be, or be likely to be, present at the scene.

(5) Riot may be committed in private as well as in public places.

(6) A person guilty of riot is liable on conviction on indictment to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years or a fine, or both.

Back on topic, let's hope the other guy admits responsibility when it comes to notifying his insurance company

Hi Graham,

was under the impression you don't have to except the insurers repairer. Back in 06 when my good lady had a coming together with a Scooby in her previous Fabia, I rejected the insurers option because they were not a Skoda approved outfit, took a bit longer to sort but we did get it repaired by the local approved shop.

Grrr... if a learner driver does not know the go-faster pedal from the stop pedal fine...... but an experienced driver!??! (I presume anyway!) What a plonker! Good luck with getting it fixed. At least he does have insurance unlike half the rest of the drivers around us these days.

+1 ... you are at liberty to choose your own repairer. Whilst the insurance company will try to tell you that you must use their approved repairer, they can't legally insist. It's your car and your choice, and they have to pay.
