Hands up if your compressor is on back order

Featured Replies

Just out of interest is anyone on the waiting list for a new air con compressor for the octavia (mk II)? Would be interested to know as I need one (under warranty) and I cannot be advised of an eta.

Thanks

Recently (early July) swapped to a Scout, but previous Yeti (2.0 TDi 140 bhp) had the a/c compressor fail in late May and was a 4 week wait for a replacement.

At least it looks like the hot weather has gone, so don't need it as much as te last couple of weeks. Was blowing out hot air last week when it was 30 degrees. It just mists up the windscreen now!

My hand's up.

My AC compressor ate itself with the most horrendous noise last Friday, which I was not impressed with as the car's only 18 months old and this will be the third claim on the warranty. I drove straight to the dealer and they estimated a delivery of 16th, but could make no promises, and said there's a few more customers waiting too. Great.

Is this yet another common VAG fault?

Bob.

At least you got given a date!

Sounds to me like a common fault. Only had the vrs for a couple of weeks.

Common yes and not new. I forgot to mention that I had a similar failure on a 2.0 Tdi A6 I had about 6 years ago, although at that time they got a replacement within a day or so.

Yep, seems like it! Still not sorted the compressors reliability and its been years now!

if your part number is 1K0 820 808 BX we've got 3 on order with VAG with an eta of the 16/8 but i can almost put my house that they wont arrive as this eta has been moving for the last month, looks like your in for a big wait

Yeah, that's the one. Ive found a place that has one (not the modified version tho, so prone to the same problem) but as it's an independent, skoda warranty won't pay for it, so bit of a pain really.

I'm already getting 23/08 for that part.

My failed a coupel of months ago and I had to wait 6 weeks for the part. The system will calculate an ETA and then assign a percentage score to the confidence of part delivery on that date. My date was constantly rescheduled so even though the system would say the part would be available a week later, it would have a 20% score. Come that day the date is recalculated and another low score assigned. There is a problem across the entire VAG group with compressors and they are on nationwide back order.

I raised mine as a priority case and got mine in 6 weeks other wise it is likely to have been 2 or 3 months. This took several calls to Skoda UK and my local dealer.

The BX code means a refurb incidentally, not a new unit. I had to settle for one of these as the wait for a new unit is even longer and thd ealer was unable to order one (due to shortage).

This is a very sorry state of affairs but tbh it's good to get it replaced under warranty, as otherwise it seems it is only a matter of time

Are the replacement units modified to cure this common fault then? Or can I expect it to fail again in another 18 months, that is if I still have the Skoda then, which is becoming increasingly unlikely given the things that have gone wrong in the first 18 months. Won't be buying another.

I have been informed that the refurb units are dissambled, inspected, refurbished and then rebuilt by hand. In addition they then go through extensive QC checks. If this is to be believed then they should be better than a new replacement part which would not be subject to so much detail.

A refurb part from Skoda also carries a 2 year warranty.

Same here i picked my 06 Octy Vrs up lsst wednesday from a Skoda dealer and when i was being shown all the controls guess what no aircon although the car had just had its Skoda inspection so mine too is on back order- not happy, also got horrendous tyre saw toothing rumble so much for the big pre-delivery checks eh I want my wheel geometry checked and 2 new tyres off them when compressor is being fitted , not great service so far.

This is exactly the same as my story! Thought I was reading my own post for a second.

Shame though because apart from these niggles which hopefully will be sorted in next month or so its a fantastic car great performance and fantastic mpg for 200bhp motor hope you manage get yours sorted asap

One of the main reasons why compressors fail is that people turn off the air con, therefore the compressor does not get any air con oil.

A friend has a Fiat camper van, 8 months old the compressor went when he went to switch on, as you only used once beforehand.

Mine has never been off since the day I picked it up so thats not the cause.

Sorry but in the case of VAg compressors this is not the case. There is a lot of info on the net on this problem affecting the ENTIRE VAG range for 2006-2007 cars. There is some very good info on the mkV GTI forums and the bottom line is that it is a design fault with the compressor. If you have an early car it WILL fail at some point. The units where swapped to a different make of compressor from MY 2007 onwards I believe.

A/C compressors are back orders, apparently VW have a request of over 600 for them in Europe, the culprit are tiny particles in the gas which damages a valve in the compressor.Skoda issued a Bullettin which say to have the gas renewed and if there are many of these particles Skoda advise that the condensor be replaced as well ... The same compressor problems also effect the Superb II which have the same type of compressor ... Badly needed around half a dozen for our clients but easily sorted out everything with Skoda, placed an urgent order in their Portal,e-mailed them the chassis numbers of vehicles and in 4 days I had the compressors in hand ... Apparently there are also a couple of 1.2 TSI turbo's on back order as well ...

This must be a different issue affecting newer models as this is not the process that my dealer went through to rectify the problem.

Rather than newer models this effects cars till late 2007 ...

Good news for a change, had a voicemail from the service manager this morning to say my compressor was in and they can fix it next week, so will be less than two weeks from failure to repair. Hopefully you others still waiting will get a similar call soon.

My compressor is now in stock so is being replaced (with condenser) tomorrow. Hopefully I'll then be trouble free and can start enjoying my (new to me) octavia vrs.
