Yeti car insurance. ''What if ?''

Featured Replies

My policy is up for renewal. Couple of points. Renewal has come in at £255, Comp. Legal protection incl. Protected NCB. This is with Bradford and Bingley.

Decided not to renew with them as the renewal is £75 up on current plus they've introduced a £25 'Admin Fee' which would mean to swap winter tyres is another £50 P.A. And to swap my own number plates over is another £25 a go (if I changed cars for example. Not a great issue, but a man has to have principles :)

Interestingly (or not!) my wife's quote from Saga for the same car (similar age, same NCD and clean licence), was £10 more than my Saga quote. I thought they were supposed to be equal now? However, she has insured the car with Saga this time as we both drive it and she, obviously, needs to maintain her bonus by being insured every two years or so. She will be the 'main' driver this year and will, I'm sure, be pleased to be so. The premium for her is £161.....(which, as explained, would have been £151 if I'd insured it)......I consider that a good price.

The question is - they offer, for an extra £21 or thereabouts, to give you a hire car for three weeks if the car is stolen or written off. Ordinarily you wouldn't qualify for a car in those circumstances and would be without a car till you either found a relacement yourself - OR - they sourced a 'LIKE for LIKE' replacement....which they would within the first two years from new, as per the policy.

BUT - A like for like replacement would take six months to come, as we know, unless you accepted a stock vehicle for example, or, maybe, a demonstrator??? Don't know if they'd do that??

So, even if you did have the £21 extra three weeks cover, you've still got to get round the wait for a new one.

It's a hypothetical point - but nevertheless, a real possibility that your car might get written off. I haven't got a second car as we speak so it's something to, maybe, think about.

Any observation here, at all?

Your B&B price sounds pretty reasonable to me - my renewal has just come from LV and it is £276.75 but this includes up to 180 days fully comp European cover, which I need for frequent trips to the French pad, so I'm happy to pay that. I found, when shopping around last year, that LV appears to be one of the few companies to offer fully comp European cover at a reasonable price (£19.89, included in the price I mentioned, along with guaranteed courtesy car for £14.90 included, NCB protection and legal costs). Excess is £250 (£75 for windscreen). LV have been very polite/helpful/speedy when I queried lots of small print so I'm happy to stay with them for a second year. I pay the extra for a courtesy car if needed, as my wife doesn't have that cover in her insurance and we could not manage without any car out here in the sticks. Unlikely they'd both be off the road at the same time, but sod's law has a knack of striking when least expected!

Hi

Just renewed my insurance ,cost £193 this is with myself as main driver and the wife as a named driver both of us have full NCD.

This includes car hire if needed, as I read it till a suitable like replacement can be found.

Also legal protection and a protected policy.

I was reasonably happy with this.

Our only problem is having just come down to a 1 car family keeping both our NCDs, we have been informed by several insurance companies that the only way to do this would be to change the log book details every year.

As you state the wait for a new replacement would be considerable but it is noticeable that more demos are available also quite a few 1 owners appearing in Skoda garages.

All best Bob

I have max NCD, I'm under 50, IAM First membership and a modified Yeti......Skoda Insurance were the cheapest for me at £465 emoticon-0104-surprised.gif (they only charged 10% extra for the modifications.)

PS. also an IAM member (since 1969) and never once used it to get cheaper insurance. There have always been better quotes with reputable companies from elsewhere. Same applied this time around. IAM associated company was OK but not unbeatable.
