stop automatic locking when keys are inside

Hello

I have a Skoda Octavia from the year 2000. I am travelling so do not have

the manuals with me.

How do you set the door locking mechanism so that the car does not

automatically lock itself when you left the keys on the inside and just closed

the door for a moment ....?

thanks for your help.

Hi

I don't think it is a setting, but a fault, the car should not lock just because you shut the door, but on central (remote) locking,

you will find if the car is accidentally unlocked but the door is not opened it will relock for security, but should not lock when

you just shut the door !

Correct, the only time it should self lock is if you lock the door, then unlock and don't open a door.

I'd suspect a wiring problem or a faulty door catch.

Is the LED flashing when you lock the car?

Thank you for your replies. Yes the LED on the fob is flashing. Here is the full story:

used the key fob to unlock the car

opened door, got in driver seat placed keys in ignition but did not start engine

opened door, got out to clean windscreen wiper. Closed door

15 - 20 seconds later the car self locked

I tried to see if this would happen this evening. Perhaps something to do with central locking, secure mode and the key fob?

In one test the car automatically locks itself when I close the door without locking it. I then fiddled around with the open all locks button on the drivers door and I pressed the fob unlock button twice and since then (touchwood) it has not self locked.

I found this in the older manual which maybe covers this situation:

The turn signal lights flash twice as confirmation that the vehicle has been

unlocked. The vehicle will lock again automatically if you unlock the

vehicle using button but do not open a door or the boot lid within the

next 30 seconds. This function is intended to prevent the car being

unlocked unintentionally.

To prevent this happening again I am going to keep hold of my keys at all times, and double press the unlock on the fob regularly, and check every so ofoten if the car locks itslef.

Thank you for your replies. Yes the LED on the fob is flashing...

I was asking about the LED on the driver's door

That sounds like a dodgy door microswitch on your drivers door, which isn't recognising that the door is opened. Had similar problems on my old Golf, other symptoms included the courtesy light not working in the drivers door sometimes (but sometimes was fine so the bulb and wiring were clearly OK).

Mine only ever locks itself if i open it and dont get around to reaching the car its a good feature. I am a window cleaner and all day i stop put keys in door pocket and get out shut the dorr and do some work, still unlocked on return so sounds like the other s say like a fault rather than a setting

I think that the idea that the car locks itself again after 30 seconds is fairly sensible. What I dont like is when the boot on the estate is opened only as soon as the tailgate is closed again it locks itself. It's nearly caught me out a number of times when lifting heavy items out. I've (stupidly I know) put the keys on the boot floor so I can use two hands then returned and just shut the tailgate, this of course causes it to lock with the keys inside! I'm gonna see if this feature can be switched off it's a right pain.

You can't turn it off. :)

Believe me, if it were possible I'd have done it :D

The other problem is that you can open the boot using the middle key on the fob, leave the keys in the boot, close the boot - boot locks and keys are inside. I've done this once with a Passat saloon . Had to get the train home and bring the spare set of keys the following day. I now open all the doors instead of just opening the boot.
