REAR SCREEN WASHER Failure

Featured Replies

Hi

can anyone tell me if Skoda are doing anything about the problem of the rear screen washer delivery

I have an 06 Elegance estate and the screen wash pipe continually parts company for reasons unknown

This has been seen by my local garage and the repairs mount up as its in a part of the car thats not easy to sort

(Under and behind the CD player- boot mounted)

All I'm told is that its a skoda design fault and there's nothing that can be done about it as there hasn't been a recall statement nor any modifications made available by Skoda.

Anyone else suffering the same issues and whats the best way to get Skoda to fix this...

I don't think I should have to keep paying out for a blown water delivery system to be fixed even out of warranty.

Thanks

Keith

TThis a Skoda dealer or other?

Fix is easy. Cable tie the pipe so it won't blow off, unblock the nozzle jets and flush, don't use pre-mix (unless VAG stuff) or cheap ready mix screen wash.

Your garage has seen you coming it seems.

Hi just attempted a fix this afternoon, the original tube does have a snap fit connector and this does blow off ever so easily I even superglued the thing, this time i thought cut the bloody thing out and replace with a push fit connector. However after cutting the connector out i found that the tube is a non standard size (approx 5mm OD and 3mm ID)so here is what i did i had some 4mm ID pvc tubing pushed a no2 pozi up the tube to make it bigger and pushed the stiff original pipe inside, two tywraps and hey presto fixed....until the next time!!!

Does anyone have a picture of the washer tube fitting underneath the rear panel of the tailgate?

I can't believe that the crappy white plastic box thing that joins the tube to the rear wipe unit would ever keep pressurised water from flooding my boot. There are a lot of good and well built parts to the Octavia but honestly, this waterpipe system is unbelievably poor. I can't help thinking that something must be missing ?

I have a vrs hatchback and my rear washer isn't working either. Could it be the same fault ? I also use halfords pink readymixed screenwash.

I have now spoken to Charlotte at Skoda Customer service HQ

a manager no less !!

She tells me that there has been no problems reported and does not have a recall report logged anywhere

my local garage told me they had this problem often....

Skoda say they know nothing ! and repairs are electronically stored nationally I understand

Seems like Skoda know but are in denial......

Any views on how to elevate the problem as its crazy to have such a simple problem go wrong and the corrosion factor is potentially worrying with all the water sloshing about after the pipe blows off.

Could someone tell me where abouts I need to look, to see if the pipe has come off, as it sounds that I have the same fault ! Thanks

Is the l/h side of the boot wet? Or the spare wheel well?

No, everything seems dry.......

Could just be blocked nozzles. Use something 1/2 size of nozzle to help break it up.

my rear washer has gone again, only used it about 3 times since last fix at dealer, second time it had been in for it in 6 months. boot hatch liner wet at the bottom. Getting a bit sick of this now.

Had a look on my rear wiper, and can't see the nozzle anywhere....

On the hatch, look in the cover which covers the hex bolt securing the wiper arm. You'll see a small cut out approx 1cm wide near the point it hinges.

Not sure about the estate. I think it's the same.

Hi,

Just had my Octavia in the garage for the rear washer leaking (for the 4th time). Had a new jet fitted in December (2011). Have now been told that the rear windscreen motor is leaking and a new motor is needed to cure the fault. Used to do all my own car maintenance but have not done much for a while. Not sure why the washer fluid is routed through the motor I assume that what the garage is tellimg me is correct. Accessing the washer jet seems to be a bit of a pain. The rear windscreen wipers are working ok. The cost of a fitted new motor is £170. This seems a lot just to cure a leaking rear washer. Not sure if anyone else has had this problem.

Thanks

Well my rear nozzle is blocked up again , I have managed to unlock the nozzles with a pin. The only problem I have now is, because the nozzles are near enough horizontal and plus its a powerful jet, ( and I mean powerful ! ) when its on wash/wipe, the water will shoot out a good 10ft onto the pavement when the nozzle is not in line with the screen !

Any body got the same problem, because looking at it I can see no way of adjusting the angle of the nozzles..

Otherwise..a few people are going to get wet...

When you've unblocked the nozzles with the pin you've adjusted them at the same time!

Good luck getting it aimed back on the screen, you can have it aimed perfectly with the black cap hinged open but close the cap and the jet of water hits the inside of the cap instead of exiting through the holes!
