Lots of warning lights and sounds!

Featured Replies

As per the title really, I arrived home from shopping tonight, parked up (mounting a kerb), turned off the engine while I brought the shopping inside. When I went out and started the car again all the warning lights came on, fuel gauge didn't work, speedo didn't work, power steering gave up too. I've had this problem before and have turned on and off and it's fixed itself, however I had more lights and more problems this time.

So, my questions for the Brisky Massive: -

1) Is this something which could be getting worse?

2) Can it be solved through VAGcom/VCDS?

3) Will having engine management light on fail me on an MOT?

4) Will the car be ok to drive - obviously after several restarts and getting everything working?

MOT is tomorrow morning! Help!!

This seems to be something that not a lot of people have had, mine done this and It seems to be cured by taking a black box out from under the steering wheel panel and reconnecting it (think one of the many plugs was loose) it hasn't happened in over a month since but it had everybody puzzled. Other than that people was suggesting an earth lead or something. Look up ros53y every light on dash on google. It'll be a briskoda link and shows a video and a lot of people's opinions. It's the worst ever so I hope you get it sorted.

Yours looks a little worse than what mine is! My speedo wouldn't budge from 0, and rev counter worked normally. I'll take it in for MOT this morning and hope it behaves :S Will ask them to scan it with VAGcom while I'm there, although I'm sure they'll charge me for the pleasure. Meh.

Thanks for your help Ross.

Ok, I'll ask the garage if they're planning on charging me then :p Think they're going to do it for nothing... which would be handy! Will pm you when I'm done at the garage. Thanks for your help though!

Where abouts are you taking it?

Where abouts are you taking it?

Lincoln Volkswagen Specialists. They're just off the A46. Suits me nicely as they have free wi-fi and comfy sofa's to wait on, got no way to just drop the car off and leave it here. They seem pretty good though to be honest. Did my 70k service for £115 I think it was.

Ok, a quick update.

They scanned the car at the garage, free of charge, apparently it came up with a code for loss of power or something similar. They checked the battery terminals for me and said they were fine. They also said that they wouldn't be able to fix the problem for me without going through all the way wiring which apparently could be quite expensive for me!

On another note, the car failed the MOT on front arb, and I need to seal my rear passenger door again...! Grrr!!

Earth lead on gearbox this could be

Quite common I'm right in thinking. Seen a few posts on seat cupra relating to the ibiza too with this problem.

What's this likely to cost to fix? If it's cheap I'll ask them to check/do it with the arb.

an earth lead is a few quid and 15 mins labour...
