Rear tyre wear on inside

Featured Replies

Whilst fitting my exhaust system today, I noticed my rear tyres are wearing rapidly on the inside edges, to the point of concern.

Never been fitted to the front, not been an issue previously. Tracking ok 6 months ago.

Any ideas? Only thing I've changed at that end is the RARB - could this be the culprit?

thanks

Assuming the rear beam axle isn't bent due to jacking car up using the axle beam, could be worn rear bushes for axle front pivot points. No RARB as standard, so when you say 'changed' do you mean added? Any changes to suspension from OEM spec risks tyre wear.

Thanks Moggy,

Yes - the only mod at that end (the only thing I have changed at the rear end) is adding a RARB.

Rear beam axle never been jacked. Although the rear wheel did take a bit of a kerb hit 18 months ago - how would I go about checking its straighness? Saying that though, it's not been an issue until recently. Will get my mechanic buddy to check the bushes soon.

Have you/anyone ever heard of anyone else suffering this from a RARB? It is quite severe - almost bald on the edges, whereas the outside has 6-7mm left!? :|

Adding a RARB will reduce the travel of the trailing arm on the loaded wheel when cornering. That means the camber will be different from OEM spec, so yes, I would expect the tyres to wear due to the RARB. That said, bald on the inner tread and 6mm at outside, would suggest something is well out of true.
