TT/S3 front end set up

Featured Replies

Hello, I'm new to Briskoda and Skoda's in general. I bought a 05 plate VRS in the obviously faster red colour! I want to improve handling, but do it properly.

I've read in several posts and threads on here that an Audi TT/Audi S3 front end set up is preferred? The closest I've come to a complete front end change was on my old golf when I swapped it to a GTI Subframe and poly bushed it all. With this I'm looking to tackle oversteer, improve braking and generally stiffen the front end up.

I've been browsing eBay and the Audi TT cast front wishbones are quite expensive, but I dare say I could rade a few local scrap yards and pay a fraction of the price.

What are the items that are needed for the best front end set up? I've been looking for subframes off of MK1 TT's, do they differ between the different versions, 225/180 etc...

This link has helped, although it's to an Octavia, would it be very much the same on my Fabia? My link

This link has also been a good read with regards to handling. My link

In my mind I'd like an Audi TT/Audi S3 front subframe, 23mm ARB, Audi TT cast wishbones, Quick rack, Poly bush everything with new nuts bolts, new ball joints, new track rod ends, large front brake set up from either car, 310mm is it? Calipers rebuilt, braided brake lines.

Are all parts interchangeable? I'd have to build up the parts progressively, then put it all together off of the car and once it's all ready put it on the car at the weekend as it is used daily.

I'm sorry if this comes across as being vague or daft, but any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you

The Fabia is a smaller, Polo-based chassis with no Audi equivalent. I don't think there was any different front end designs between Polo/Fabia/Ibiza, just different spring rates and heights for the different trim levels. Not like the difference between Octy MkI and the S3/TT/LCR, which was not only different parts but a different design altogether.

I very much doubt any S3/TT/LCR parts would fit on the Fabia at all, although I'm open to being proved wrong...

Sorry Lee, the TT/S3 setup won't fit a Fabia. It's too big. It's designed for golfs/octys/a3s/leons etc etc.

Ah it looks like I may have miss-read all together! 1st post, good effort :D

What sort of options are there available for a brake upgrade?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly

The 312mm brakes from an Octavia vRS, Golf GTI, or petrol Leon Cupra (the diesels are 288s) is easiest, you reuse your calipers and pads, just need new carriers and discs. Often sets knocking around on eBay, but when I was looking for my Leon the prices varied a lot, so I would keep an eye on it for a while.

Ah brilliant thank you. So all I'd need is discs and carriers from one of the above that are mentioned? Any idea as to whether or not they'd fit behind standard 16" fabia vRS alloys?

You need both the caliper and carrier if you're upgrading to 312mm. The 288mm are Lucas and 312s are ATE so everything is different.

Yes 312mm fit and don't need any spacers. :)

Awesome thank you! I've now compiled the shopping list.

312mm Discs

312mm ATE calipers and carriers

Braided brake lines

DOT 5 brake fluid

Large dust covers

I've sent a question or two on eBay and am searching the classifieds.

Thank you, enjoy your Sunday.

Ah yeah. I'd forgotten about that. The 288s on the Leon are the same ATE calipers as the 312 setup, so you could just re-use those, my Fabia already had 312s when I bought it so it slipped my mind that the originals were the wrong make :)

Don't get DOT 5 fluid, it's silicone based and the brake system doesn't like it. Get DOT5.1 instead

The braided hoses aren't required either, Unless you're just looking to tart it up!

Originals are already internally braided, And are of sufficient length!

Hi and welcome, it's a well known fact that the black one's are fastest closely followed by silver. emoticon-0110-tongueout.gif

FWIW and I'll happily be corrected, I didn't think oversteer was a typical problem with the Fabia, rather the opposite, hence why the rear anti-roll bars from Jabba and Whiteline are so popular.

HTH.
