Faulty temperature dial

Featured Replies

Hi, i've had my Fabia Elegance for about a year and been pretty happy with it but during this time it has always had a fault with the temperate selector. If i set the temperature to the coldest then it blows cold air but if i try and adjust the settings at all/turn the temperature up, normally after quite some delay, it will adjust but automatically blow on hottest. I can then end up sweltering, try and turn the temperature down only for it to not change for quite some time.

I've had a look round on here and think a few might have had a similar problem and also a similar problem with the fan speed. One topic i looked at suggested taking off part of the dash to clear away any dust round the thermometre - did this but no change.

Could anyone help suggesting the possible fault/fix? Any help would be very much appreciated - Skoda garage want £70 just to hook it up to VAG-COM to have a look for anything.

Thanks!

Phil

Anyone got any help/advice? Would be very much appreciated.

Heater flap motor will need replaced, but worth having it adapted first with someone with VCDS software. Flap motor is half dash out job.

Thanks very much. Should VCDS software be able to reset it? And any idea how permanent a fix this might be?

Thanks for the reply!

I'm going to have to get this done too - i'm sure someone once posted how to do it and the part number. But I cant find the thread either!

Let me know how you get on!

Have spent a while searching the forum, most people reckon it's a dashboard out job, one person reckoned it was a lot easier to do it through the side/glove box.

mines the same, I'll watch this with interest! sounds like a cheap part but pretty labour intensive if I end up taking it to my local vag indy I reckon

I've had this problem to. I just replaced my fan speed resistor as the fan only worked on 4. Tho the heater problem started long after the resistor failed. Hope it is an easier fix than than the resistor!

I sort of get this problem with my car. The temperature dial does work, but it's not very accurate. Turn it up a bit, and it doesn't get much hotter. Only seem to get mega hot or freezing cold, not much variation in either.

Even more annoying is the random blasts of HOT air that last 10seconds even when the temperature is set to full cold.

I've done the Vagcom adaptation, but doesn't fix the problem.

Am I right in thinking I also need to replace the heater flap motor like the above posters?

I'm going to get one of the flap motors ordered - there is even one on ebay for £15!!!
