Octavia Vrs LE Alloy needed

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone,

Does anyone know if it is possible to bang out a buckle in my Alloy wheel? I went over a pot hole :(

Failing that I'm after an Alloy wheel for my Octavia Vrs LE.

18†‘Limited Edition’ alloys (225/40 R18 92Y)

If you know anyone who is selling one please let me know.

That wheel is known for it's softness unfortunately. There's a thread running of owners who've had damage and issues.

Might be worth a dealer contact, with a 'not fit for purpose' approach?

But if it were me and I had an LE, the first thing I'd do is change the wheels for something better and stronger. Because even if you do get it sorted, it could well happen again.

depends how bad the damage is (hard to tell from that picture) but i've had wheels repaired that i thought were beyond it in the past.

There are a few threads on this. The wheel is a Team Dynamics Monza R, the dealer will probably charge around £150-160 including vat for a new one, but the cheapest place I found for a single wheel (£126 including next day postage) is here: LE wheel They also take paypal with a online order which is quite handy.

As long as there are no cracks it would be possible to get a wheel refurbisher to stretch out the flat spot and re-round it on a machine, a proper refurb including repainting normally costs £100 plus (so more economical to get a new wheel) but if it is only to get the flat spot out you may find it is a lot cheaper so google for refurbishers in your area.

As to the quality of the wheels, the problem is that they are lightweight race wheels that are great on a track but don't measure up on British roads (being 18" doesn't help either in terms of intrinsic strength). Skoda UK won't do anything about this (see the other threads, many have tried), as the Team Dynamics wheels aren't by themselves substandard (they just aren't the most expensive/strongest alloys out there). Therefore if you think it will be a problem again the only other alternative is to get a different set of heavier and stronger alloys, but you are talking £800 plus for good wheels from BBS or Skoda Neptunes perhaps, unless you can get something 2nd hand (a set of 4 Team Dynamics Monzas come in at around £450 which indicates their price level quality).

Photograph the Pot Hole and your wheel and put a claim in from the highways dept who is responsible for that road and try for a new wheel. There pot hole caused the damage

I think there is a substandard issue here. This isn't the first time I've come across Team Dynamics wheels having this sort of problem. It's also not correct that lightweight race wheels won't stand up to the rigours of UK roads. Especially if you think what a proper motorsport wheel is designed to withstand and put up with. It's also not the case that in order to be strong and not have this sort of issue happen, they need to be heavier. They just need to be designed properly, with the correct materials used that are upto the task. My Speedlines are lighter than the OEM 17" Pegasus by about 2-3Kg, despite being 18s. Are they stronger? Yes. Why? Because of their construction.

If you're going down this road (pardon the pun), and I think it's worth at least attempting - make sure you get photographs that include a measuring tape showing the width, length and depth of the pothole. Your council's Highways department should have a section on their website, including details of what they consider to be a pothole. This will at least stop you submitting a claim for damage, which the council will immediately refuse due them not agreeing on pothole status (whether rightly or wrongly!)
