XBOX 360 headset

Featured Replies

My lad's just got onto Xbox live since I bought him the wireless network jobby. He's got his headset out for the first time to use it and tells me that he should be able to hear and speak to mates he's playing with?

He says that he can only hear them through the TV speakers, and they can't hear him at all.

TBH I've got no idea about these gaming consoles. The headset looks pristine even though we bought the XBox second hand. Does this have to be enabled somewhere else, or is it really as simple as my lad thinks it should be?

Thanks

Martin

If I recall correctly this depends on the game as you can set it to do voice only through the head set and game sounds through the TV surround sound etc.

The default is probably set to everything through the TV though.

There is a setting that needs to be altered on the 360's menu. Not sure where it is though but its definitely there.

I read somewhere that a Gold Xbox live subscription is required. Is this correct?

I'd wager its one of the settings in the guide thats wrong.

Gold is needed to join a 'party' - i.e., more than one other person, and to play against people online. Silver/free you can talk to one other person in a 'private chat', and play offline.

Sound via speakers - press the big middle button in when in a game, and go to the far right tab (settings/preferences, I think, but can't remember). Then it's in there somewhere under sound/voice and you can choose from 'both', 'speakers' or 'headset'.

Some games like Halo play speech from the opponents via the speakers if you're close to them. Really, really annoying if they've just killed you and start teabagging/mocking! :punch:

Can your lad join parties with other people? Also, might be worth bunging the 360 into the DMZ on the router if you can. (Some routers let you set clients as static IPs themselves, to save going via the 360.) The headset isn't on mute is it? (I'd assume he's checked that!)

Does it need that when its connected (i.e. plugged in) to the controller?

Nope - as long as teh controller is working.

That's only for a wireless one I believe (although I've never used one).
