Handbrake

Featured Replies

My 2007 1.9tdi handbrake does not hold that well on slopes I have to really ratchet it up told dealer but he said adjustment ok. Admittedly the travel is not far up. Wonder if anyone else finds this.

I tow an Eriba caravan sometimes and struggle to hold it on a hill stop

check the rear calipers have not partially siezed

There may well be something in the brake binding suggestion. When I first had my second-hand Roomster Scout ,I would wash the alloy wheels and then put the car in the garage.

The next day the car would not move giving a terrible crunching, grinding noise as I engaged the clutch.

Common sense told me one of the front brakes was binding on, never the less it took a lot of courage to drive the car out of the garage which freed the brake.

It was never as bad as this first incident , but I did notice it to a lesser degree every time I splashed water over the wheels , upon garaging for the night.

I vowed to strip the brake callipers and clean ,come the spring , but luckily the problem went away.

I appreciate this is the opposite to your problem , i.e. brakes binding on.

Other than this I have found the Roomster brakes to be very good. In fact after test-driving the car when I before I bought it , and jumping back into my old Golf estate ,at the first junction I thought my brakes had failed such was the marked difference in braking performance.
