I believe that Shark were waiting on the figures from Jabba...

+1

Yep, still waiting for Jabba's comments on this.

Sooo.... Very interesting read! Just as Im thinking of going hybrid turbo too. This threads now makes me want to ask the question - is going hybrid turbo really worth it??

Personally if it were my money and I had a standard car with a failed turbo then I'd buy a hybrid PD130 again. If I had to spend money on a new turbo anyway, it's probably worth the extra over a new stock turbo plus it'd be Garrett rather than KKK and should last longer. Whether it's worth ripping off a perfectly good turbo just to replace with a hybrid isn't so clear though. I probably wouldn't, I'd just get a remap until it failed and then hybrid it when I was having to spend the money anyway.

See thats the thing - my turbo seems fine at the minute! May hold off until it blows - then like you say change it. However PD150 hybrid units are cheaper that PD130 hybrid units at the minute...

The PD150 hybrid would flow more air than a 130 hybrid, BUT it would be more laggy. And if it does turn out that 130 injectors can't flow enough fuel for more than 210bhp, you'd be wasting a lot of the excess air you'd get from a 150 hybrid IMO. Meaning you'd end up with the same power as a 130 hybrid, but more lag.

Lol vicious circle this aint it!

My 150 is barely anymore laggy than a 130, plus I'm safe in the thought that my turbo isn't being pushed to it's limit. No brainer as they say . . .

Matt

But then if my PD130 is rated for 240bhp (according to Turbo Dynamics) and I'm only on 200, mine isn't being pushed either. I dunno about a hybrid 150 tbh, but my hybrid 130 certainly seems to pick up quicker than the standard 150 on my old car. Obviously it may be that a hybrid 150 cuts down on lag as well, I don't know anyone who has one so I don't know for sure.

There's always variables so it's tricky to compare. Iv driven a hybrid 130 on a Fabia with a forge fmic then a 150 on my Fabia with a seat sport fmic. I notice no more lag on mine, but then it's running a different cooler. I didn't realise they made a 130 hybrid rated to 240bhp, my mates was rated to 210ish iirc.

I'd still have the 150, but personal preference I guess

Matt

cool, so speed wise is a hybrid much faster than a standard 130 remapped?

Come watch tomorrow at Castle Combe ;-)

Bit of a trek for me mate - 642 mile round trip

But guessing they're a fair bit faster! Reason Im asking is because Im literally about to buy a turbo lol

There's been a disagreement between Shark and one of the SCN admins. There were various claims thrown around which Ben felt weren't true but the only solution that got offered was that every mention of Shark (whether fact or fiction) would be deleted and the word Shark censored from that point on.

Much as I like some of the people on SCN, the admins aren't always the easiest to get along with. R-Tech in Hinckley is also banned on there, although I don't know the story behind that. Some people say it's simply because they don't pay to sponsor SCN with advertising and that it's unfair for them to get forum publicity for free when Awesome/Jabba/Badger5 etc all chip in with their sponsorship fees.

Yeah there are a lot of company's "banned" on there or at least that is the explanation Mork gives. Even companies who want to pay to advertise are banned with absolutely no explanation, I don't go on that forum much

Its more of the same. It just keeps pulling and pulling, very addictive. I`d say its worth the money, but then i`d say that after doing it anyway

gavin makes a fair point regarding the difference between the 130 and 150 hybrid wise in terms of lag. I have no idea about a 150 hybrid and the lag it has, but my 150 has slightly more lag than my 130, but then again goes a lot stronger for longer as we know. Im not sure how true it would be that a 130 hybrid can run 240 though????

That's what Turbo Dynamics rate their stage 2 PD130 hybrid at. Although as has been said before, that does depend on the fuelling to match, which it seems that the standard injectors may not be able to provide.

The only difference between a Hybrid 130 and a Hybrid 150 (Porviding they were both hybridised with the same internals) is the name plate on the impeller casing....

How much does this cost mate? Turbodynamics said the exhaust wheel is bigger on the 150 turbo - does this affect performance or what causes the extra lag?

Pass not sure on prices. If it's a hybrid though, the inpeller, shaft and exhaust wheel are swapped for bigger items, and impeller housing/Exhaust housing machined to suit.

Think cr charge £600 for hybridising a turbo, turbo dynamics don't hybrid turbos, they just sell them.....

Hmmm food for thought - as I may be able to get hold of a cheap blown 130 turbo, so could potentially save myself a few hundrd quid for the same performance? Thats money towards a clutch!

If it's blown, it's probably an OEM KKK one, and I don't think any turbo company will hybrid it even if they're able to. They're too unreliable, as proved by the number of blown turbos on Fabias (and presumably Ibiza PD130s) vs Golf/Leon/Passat PD130s which use Garrett turbos.

Ah righty - yeah I heard the KKK's are a bit poop. Cheers mate
