Skoda warranty - is it international?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if the warranty on a car bought in the UK applies internationally?

The reason I ask is we're looking to emigrate to New Zealand and I'll most likely be taking the Octy with me.

They have Skodas over there so parts will be available but will the warranty be honoured if anything breaks?

A good question. I think that you will have to ask SkodaAuto that question or, alternatively, ask the Skoda importer in New Zealand (European Motor Distibuters) if they will honour the 2 year EEC warranty since they would have to pick up the tab for any work. Their contact details are here.

Where are you hoping to move to? If it's South Island, you're a bit stuck for a main dealer; there only seems to be one!

you might find its cheaper and less hassle to buy one out there! import tax, shipping, time etc etc

Cheers Denis - I'll email them and ask.

Assuming everything goes well, the reasons I'm looking at taking the car are:

I love it, and I've had it from new and know its history. Also I like my mods :-)

I was thinking about getting it Jabba'd before going too - although that makes the warranty question a bit less important I suppose.

Shipping should cost in the region of a grand extra on our other shipping costs, plus about NZ$500-600 at the other end to register it.

As it'll be over a year old and I'll have owned it for that time, and we'll have permanent residency, there will be no import duty.

I will lose loads if I sell it in the UK due to buying it new.

Overall I expect it to cost a similar amount to take it as it would to sell it and buy another, but I want to keep it!

Oh, and we're looking at Wellington, so we'll be okay for a dealer!!

Ah, that's the one I saw the Fabia (v)RS in before Xmas - and today I've finally remembered to look up see how much they cost out there. Bit more than here on the exchange rate I was getting.

Oh, and avoid the KFC near that dealer - it's DIRE!

Just for information, an Octavia RS Combi is around $NZ45000.

That's approximately

Got a reply from Skoda NZ:

Rob

I would actually suggest that you sell the car and buy another one when you get here. Skoda is very new to NZ (less than 2 years) and they are very well priced at retail. Residuals in your part of the world are strong on Skoda so you would more thean likely do reasonably well selling the car. Also, the freight to get the car here is high and if you put all these things together, it makes more sense to buy another one here.

In terms of the warranty, the factory warranty is not a 3 year one. We offer our customers a 3 year warranty in NZ which we (as the importer) cover with our own funding. This would be the same where you are. Because we actually have an allowance in each new car that we sell to cover this warranty, it is impossible for us to offer you the same conditions as we did not sell the car. I hope this helps clarify the situation.
