Shall I cancel Yeti and get this ?

Featured Replies

No. Although they are, and always have been, a very capable off-road bit of kit.

Quite basic though :)

NOOOOOOO, now go and stick your head in a bucket of cold water for making such a silly suggestion emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Yes, and while you're at it replace your computer with a Sinclair ZX Spectrum, your TV with a black and white portable with an indoor aerial, and live on a diet of spam fritters and beans. I gather retro is very fashionable!

Pretty much what I was thinking... :D

I got given ones of those when the first came out in the UK to do a job on the old RAC Rally. Slow, uncomfortable and left hand drive then, but it went everywhere!!

And no, I wouldn't want one now!

I am sure you realise tongue was very deep in cheek

Bet you dont have to wait 26 weeks for one though !

Over here that Lada is most capable offroader in the snow.

Small, agile and capable for any terrain.

In the summer, [bad english] it doesnt stand high temperatures and use to boil water in radiator.[/bad english]

Its a brick with no comfort at all, so I would never consider it :)

If Yeti would have slow gear and permanent 4x4 selection, it would be a offraod king!

Yes, definitely :giggle:

Why not get 2 in different colours?

Fill yer boots!

I am strangely attracted to the idea of owning one, much like my dream idea of running a series IIa Land Rover as daily runaround (with motorways) two years ago.

If a nasty old rusty used one was going for £500 I'd find it hard to say no. Would be fun to have!

That sums it up perfectly!

I hope you lot did not think I was serious :giggle:

Mind you , I only need a powerful car for the caravan , otherwise the MX5 serves us well , except in the snow that is , when its about as much use as an ash tray on a motorbike ,

Bet it would be easy to carve through traffic with one ,as most would think it was just a clean car from the 70s and be wary of being dinged

Why not one of these, still cheaper then a new 4x4 Yeti and no parking problems or chance of damage from other road users :giggle:

Oh I'd guess quicker than the Lada too

just weld a 50mm tow ball to the rear end. should be good for 10-15tons of nose weight

Does the Lada still have Fiat based engines? if so a lovely fiat twin cam replacement engine will do wonders for the performance. Many years ago I almost bought one. Probably should have, as instead I bought an older Ranger Rover which was a gas guzzler.....repairs were also expensive, even in those days.

It's not such a ridiculous idea. In our case, we've been trying to decide on spec, and the 4x4 Yeti raises the cost of a perfectly good standard car with a 1.2 engine by 7,000 euros.

Our need both here and in the UK is mainly ground clearance, the 4x4 bit is needed extremely rarely - and when it is, it's often not the place I'd willingly choose to take a brand new car!

So... we've decided that it'll be a 1.2TSi for us... and with the money we've saved we've bought a second hand Landcruiser. 170 bhp diesel, automatic, eight seats, low range, lockable diff, towbar, and bullbars the size of Luxembourg to help push the green protesters out of the way.

Two cars for the price of one, and arguably a better option for the times when things get really rough and you want to keep the shiny Skoda clean!

Never thought I`d see a Lada back on our roads and still as agricultural as ever!!......Dont forget in the heyday of the Niva, Skoda were still a joke...Just goes to show how things can change when you move on

The importer for the Lada Niva lives in South London.

Apparently if he can get an order for 500, you can have them in Right Hand Drive too!

If I recall correctly, and it was some time ago,the first Nivas imported were lefthand drives....

See my post above yours. They will be left hand drive until a big order comes in. They don't make them in RHD currently.

But 2 lots of insurance, 2 lots of tax, 2 places needed to park the car (I did have to pay heavily for 2nd car when we had one), 2 tanks to fill, 2 lots of servicing..........emoticon-0136-giggle.gif
