My 61 plate Monte Carlo!

Nice one Matt the same colour as mine and the best colour IMHO, I think you have made the best choice of engine as the 105 tsi engine is a joke when it comes to fuel consumption. I am not a diesel fan but would of gone for the 1.6 cr diesel if I knew just how bad the 105 tsi was in real life driving ie: Try 35mpg with normal driving and 50

mpg if you drive at 30 to 40mph in 5th at around 1000 rpm with no hills and forget duel carriageways and motorways. So you have made the right choice.

I've the crtdi 105 and had 64 mpg today 50 mile trip :)

That's what I would expect from the diesel and about 45 from the petrol, I have never had a car with so little power and such poor mpg.

An extract from Autocar test on the Seat Leon 1.2 tsi just about backs up my findings:-

(But it is an economy issue that is this Leon’s biggest failing. We rarely achieved above 35mpg on our test route, which included everything from two long motorway runs, country lanes, city centres and heavy traffic. Official economy figures aren’t usually to be trusted, but the distance from the official 52.3mpg figure is a long way off even allowing for this)

Very nice, looking good

The two covers left and right close to the grill were they missing or did you remove them?

The dealer tried to get me to buy the 105Tsi at first as they said it was almost as good on fuel and was available more quickly. I stuck to my guns though and insisted on the diesel. Our TT and T4 are both diesel and I think you get used to the torque! I'm really pleased to hear in general that people like the colour scheme. I also liked the red but the wife hates red cars and when I saw the White in the flesh I fell in love with it. I'd have gone for the all black but our TT is black and it's a nightmare to keep clean. The White seemed the best compromise and the VW Candy White is such a nice crisp colour that it clinched it for me.

I hadn't noticed the covers were missing on the sides. I've had a quick look online at some photos and there are pictures of Mk2 VRS's with no covers on too. I wonder if it's something to do with cooling? Does anyone know if they are supposed to be there for definate as I can't see why they would remove them.

the more i look at the the more i like it now, it's a bit of a rover streetwise/scout styling with the rugged offroad black trims and high ground clearance

What covers? Please explain yourself as I have been trying to figure out what covers you could be talking about, my car looks the same in every way as Matt's, and I can't even see covers near the grill on other fabias (non Monte Carlo) so please can someone enlighten me.

I think he means the ones above the grille in your engine bay shot. About 2 feet apart equidistant from the middle of the grille. :)

I've had a look and there's definitely no sign that they have been removed, no scratches etc from removal. Vrs2 - it's the shot of the engine bay and there are two sections directly above the grille that look like they are missing. It goes directly down to the back of the grille and radiator. I'm not too worried after seeing pictures of VRS's with them missing. I can't imagine they would remove them without good reason.

Looks great!! Has anyone fitted black side protection strips??

Thought about it but I had an Octavia VRS a few years back and that had them. As they weren't colour coded or anything it was a nightmare as they always needed to be back to blacked to keep them looking dark. I have pictures of the cars in my colour scheme both with and without the strips. I prefered the style without but like the idea that some peanut hopefully can't ding your door.

Yes I see what you mean now! I thought he meant on the outside, it has been driving my mad. Just been out to check if mine in the same and yes it is so no worries. Must be a bit of production line cost cutting, don't fit them if there not needed.

Seems to me they have forgotten to fit them before hand or the dealer did some work on the car and had to remove them for some reason and forgot to place them back.

I wonder if they do it for better airflow to the engine bay but I doubt it. Either way you should check with the dealers and ask for them. Well I would...

By the way they are so easy to remove that no way you will be able to tell that someone has tampered with them.

How can you check what day the car was made? Would love to find that out for ours...

Because I didn't sign up for the car finance when ordered I had to go and sign for the finance 2 days before collection. They produced some kind of order log which showed the date the car was started. This was the 19th July by all accounts so was a Tuesday. I was quite reassured because I know I hate Monday's at work and it was more than enough time to make the car before friday judging on production times.

I'm fairly convinced there's nothing sinister about the missing flaps. The car is absolutely immaculate, I have looked long and hard and can't spot anything out of place or anything to indicate movement of the front end. As I have seen others with them missing I expect they are sometimes forgotten. I don't want to become paranoid thinking there's something wrong with the car because it's missing two flaps. I'm going to call the dealer and explain it, I'm pretty sure they'll put it right as it's two little flaps.

Nope nothing sinister just curiosity why they let those parts out. I noticed that every single Vrs is missing them too so apparently there is a reason and not a mistake.

Great looking car, I love the aggressive look of the Monte, I even think it looks better than the vRS.

The little niggle for me though is that the wheels seem a slightly different colour to the wheelarches. More dark grey rather than gloss black if that makes sense?

They almost look as though they have a slight covering of brake dust.

That aside, very jealous!

They are a very dark gunmetal grey colour, to be honest it doesn't notice at all and they really look the part. When I saw the car at the dealers at first they said "This is basically the look of car that we wanted the VRS to be". I recon if they put the 170Tdi engine in it and 4wd'd it I'd sell the house to get one :giggle:

Nice,

Mine's at the docks waiting to be shipped.

Its my Cars Twin :)

Nice looking car  Now we just want pics every week of it looking that clean :giggle: :giggle: :giggle: Good luck with the cleaning with the wet & windy weather due to hit the UK for the next 2 weeks

Lucky it's had the Lifeguard treatment from Autoglym. So far it seems to be working as it looked awfull after the wind the other night and as bright as hell the moment the rain came. Still only 51 miles on the clock though!
