I want to buy a fabia

Featured Replies

I think I would like to buy a Skoda Fabia. I would like to buy a Diesel. I have 3000 pounds maybe 4000 if I push it.

Is It best to go private or a dealer.

which is the best diesel out of the 3 units.

which is the cheapest to insure.

does it drive like a golf or seat.

I never own a diesel. Is there anythink I should know in taking care of my Fabia.

how costly are the parts.

does a diesle need more oil changes than a petrol car.

I was wondering what are the pit falls of owning a Fabia, I know people will take the micky and rib me to death all the time. but I don't care. :)

If you go onto the Skoda website (www.skoda.co.uk) and look under Used Cars - nationwide search you'll see what main dealers are charging for used diesel Fabias.

Main dealer prices are typically at the high end so you may be able to haggle them down a bit, but at least you'll have an idea of the ballpark figures.

The TDI is more expensive than the SDI (non-turbo) but is worth the extra, in my opinion. TDIs have been around since mid-2000 (X-reg) so you might find an older one in your price range. High mileage isn't normally a problem for a diesel engine, assuming the rest of the car is OK.

The main pitfall of owning a Fabia is that it isn't an Octavia. :D

I have yet to see any pitfalls to owning a Fuby ( having now owned both )

I opted to go private as the cars tend to be cheaper and I also wanted to get a good price on the car I was p/x'ing. Depending on your criteria for "best", I'd say the 100bhp TDI because it's the most powerful. The SDI (non-turbo) is the most efficient but lacks the power of the TDI units and the 75-bhp one sits somewhere between the two :D SDI will be the cheapest to insure, I suspect but may depend on your insurance company. Never driven a Golf or Seat to compare but it's comfortable, refined and well equipped :D

If you've never owned a diesel you'll need to remember 2 things - it's gonna be noisy (especially when cold ;)) and remember to put diesel in it ;) Parts aren't too badly priced and are common to the VW, Seat, etc parts bin so relatively easy to get hold of, but it will depend on the part as to the cost! :D Both Fabia's need 10k services and I heard somewhere the diesels were slightly more expensive to service but mine's not been very costly.

I'm not sure if you'll get a TDI for 3-4k as they seem to be holding their value very well, although yo umay find a higher mileage one in that bracket. Just make sure the cambelt has been done at 60k intervals and it has a full service history.....

 is that why there is a fear of ridicule?:D

thanks. great help scooby - good to know about the cambelt.

I would really like a TDI. What about the SDI it seams I can get a SDI for that price. there is one at a skoda dealer. 3999. its has 64,000. comes with I year warranty or is best to keep scanning the private ads for the TDI. is TDI easier to sell. when you decide to replace the car in the next 4 years.

I guess it depends how many miles you'll be covering but I doubt either of them will be worth a great deal in 4 years time, especially if you're having to buy the TDI at a higher mileage initially. I think the best thing to do is to drive all 3 models at a dealer and then decide which of them you feel most comortable with :)

Wow I still can't understand why Skoda still are so worthless. yet they such great car. they total reliable and very well built. well, I thought the Skoda badge would be worth something by now. I be arriving in the UK in September, I was about to send my sister out to have a look and buy it. but I keep look in the private adds until I see a TDI I think. VW TDi I have driven is very nice engine, accept the diesel turns in to goo in the winter at -40.
