Will remap damage car?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've recently bought a nice VRS and have been thinking of a remap(a so called sensible one at 170-175bhp)

but I've read even this may pre-maturely wear the clutch and damage the intercooler/turbo.

Is this true?

I won't mention the company but should they give some kind of guarentee in case anything happens

You'd be better off mentioning the company, as some are better than others.

A good map will not damage the car, unless you drive it like a loon.

Yes and no. If the map is a good one.with no sudden torque spikes and you don't boot it until 2200rpm then your clutch should be fine.

If the turbo is warmed up and cooled down then that to should be fine. However you are asking the turbo to work harder so, yes it may fail earlier than under a normal map.

There are people on here that have had one for 100k+ and all is fine others have had there turbo/clutch after only a few months of having a remap. It's all luck and how you drive it really.

Go for a reputable tuner and you shouldn't go far wrong.

I'd go for Shark Performance.

Will demand more than a worn clutch can cope with, depending on what current mileage and how driven during those miles.

Have read other members budget a new clutch with remaps.

I had a big reply typed out and then hit back and lost it. To sum up, I wouldn't expect a tuner to offer any kind of unconditional warranty on a remap as they know nothing about what sort of life your car's had. However if you have problems after the remap which could conceivably be a direct cause (i.e. engine related, rather than transmission related) then I'd expect them to try and be flexible about what they can offer you.

I wouldn't have them near me! :D

I'll get my coat.... Lol

Unit 18 maps hundreds, if not thousands of cars with no problems...

Use a respectable tuner and it will be fine.

Can't say I've ever heard of them.

Shark Performance have a sale on at the moment, and are actually £1 cheaper than them for the mk1 vRS.

Get what's probably going to be a better map, save the £1 and buy yourself a lottery ticket. Quids in B)

@BossFox

haha you don't live far from me.I noticed your cars and driveway from the picture.Have you seen me go past in my Red one?

My question is:

Would you let a tuner that trades on ebay, has delevopled their own maps and has a feedback score of only 10 play with your car? :o

Plus they are called Fusion Performance and I can't find a website.

I know a guy that does remaps out of his garage. Do you want his number? :D

Can't say I have, but I do have a guy in a red Fabia VRS overtake me quite often on the way into work on the A12. When I am in the Greenline II.

No but they have their STS which lets you apply the map on your own driveway.

You have to ask yourself, how can a company offer a nationwide service for £150 and be making any money?

I'm willing to bet that £1 that this is a guy who's bought the kit and maps off ebay and it's all cash in hand.

Or works in a tuning firm and is doing it on the side on his own time maybe?

Could be. I'd avoid at all costs though.

How would you feel if one of your employees was using your one of your buses, with your diesel, to make some money for themselves on the side.

They have. I sacked them.

One used the wheelchair ramp on the back to make the bus a motorbike transporter. :dull:

Fusion Performance is R Tech, who are a sponsor on here I think?

I had my car remapped with them... they are really good and know what they are talking about.

I paid £150 :)

174 bhp - 310 ftlb

So why aren't they advertising as R-Tech then?

If you're talking about Revo Technik then yes they are a sponsor, and many tuners use their equipment. They usually make a big song and dance about being Revo dealers, where as this ebay ad says nothing about that.

Because R tech is the garage address and Fusion is the mobile service.

It's certainly R-Tech's phone number so it could be related. I'd be wondering why they didn't mention R-Tech anywhere in the logo/advert on eBay though, R-Tech have got a pretty good rep so you'd think they'd want to make the most of that...unless there's something not quite above board.

It is above board its R Techs premises where you go to in Leicester.

Fusion performance is ran buy Ben who is trying to go mobile.

I don’t know the business structure but Ben is really sound, call him.

So he's trying to fold R-Tech up? Or run a mobile business alongside? If it's the second, then I'm really surprised that he's not bigging this up as just being a "mobile branch" of R-Tech, they're pretty well known around the Midlands so if it were me I'd be wanting to use and abuse the name to help get the mobile stuff off the ground...

I personally wouldn't ever get a remap. Why spend hard earned money getting a remap from some company, which lets face it any idiot could setup without any knowledge of different vehicle systems, when every car manufacturer spends millions of pounds developing and testing vehicles to ensure that they perform their best? Competing manufacturers want their cars to have the quickest acceleration, the highest top speed and the best fuel economy figures, whilst maximising component life and minimising overall cost of ownership. Why would anyone want to jeopardise that or even take the risk? It wouldn't surprise me if they made no tweaks at all and it just had a placebo effect, get some go faster stripes while you're at it - they will probably add another 20hp*!

* Actual horsepower increase not guaranteed. I wonder why.
