Condensation inside Help

Featured Replies

Hi! All,

Quicky question to see if anyone knows this problem/remedy.

Got an X plated Mk1 1.4 MPI Classic and every year my wife has the problem when she gets considerable condensation throughout the car within a few minutes with the colder mornings now and this generally happens throughout the winter, she and the kids have to keep sponging all the windows to see out of it all the time, not much of a problem with the school run as its only couple of miles but we are moving and the school run going to be about 5 miles each way.

Its not got air con or anything just the normal system. We did have a problem some years back where we had water flooding the passenger foot well caused by a blockage of leaves and the skoda garage removed a rubber bunge which had a slit in it right at the back wall of the engine cavity just under the passenger side wiper. Since she had this problem we the condensation has always been a problem.

does anyone else have this problem or know a solution to it.

50p says the rear door seals need doing.

Have a look at this post.

Try by aiming hot/cold air direction flap to the floor last thing each trip, any incoming cold air directed to the floor and not windscreen?

Seems to help somewhat with my car when cold weather arrives, so give it a try?

It must be a leak somewhere, as now I've sealed up my doors I don't get a single bit of condensation in the car.

Check all the carpets and the boot and see if any are damp.

Water resting on the door seal when you open the door after a downpour is a sure sign that door's carrier is leaking. Rear ones seem more prone, but fronts can leak too - although when they do seem to do less so than the rears and not cause much issue.

Did the garage not remove the actual leaves and stuff which is what causes the blockage in the plenum chamber?

In the mean time suggest cleaning window insides with glass cleaner, and applying an anti-fog solution. Halfords have their own branded one which works reasonably well and is about £6-7

Hello i have had this in cars in the past a mk4 astra comes to mind i just left the window s down a little for a few days to aid the car to dry out completely and never had the problem again worth trying while the weather is still good

Excessive inside condensation is a sure sign that you have a water leak somewhere.

I'd say this too. I would check for water on the door seals. Either wait for rain or put a hose pipe on it!

There is a picture somewhere of what it looks like when it's leaking. Push down on your back carpets underneath the mats to feel for dampness as well, this is a good indicator of doors leaking.

Then if you find any dampness follow the video which softscoop linked you to.

I found that because of the way the underfelt is constructed with an impermeable layer on the top, I had to take it completely out of the car on the driver's side - which meant taking the front seat out and cutting it out.

Good luck!
