Temporary loss of electric windows

Featured Replies

Drove 200 miles the other day, then parked up and left the wife in the car for 1.5hrs. She had the radio on the whole time, and flicked on the ignition to shut the windows at some point. Everything worked fine.

I came back to the car and started up the engine, but none of the windows would go down, or do anything. So I keyed off and on again, and still nothing. At this point I assumed a wire must have shorted on one of the doors, and blown the fuse for the windows. So I set off. 30mins later we stopped off for some grub, and when we returned to the car all the windows worked fine again!

The windows have worked fine since (4 days on), as do all other convenience systems.

I ran a fault scan yesterday and got this:

01330

-177 KWP1281

Central Control Module for Central Convenience (J393)

Sporadic - No

What the hell does "Sporadic - No" mean?!

Anyone got any ideas? I thought that maybe the battery had discharged below a certain limit, at which point the central convenience unit shut down the windows until the battery had recharged. Does that sound plausible?

Thanks in advance

That is a long way to drive, just to leave the wife in the car for just 90 minutes.

As for the real reason for the post, sorry I don't know.

Just the radio?!?!?

Your car have aircon, yes well that was on...

Your car have heated seats, check well they were on as well...

And while yer a it check the hand bag for a hair dryer or curler or something like as they were on also...

Check for rabbit too :giggle:

A similar situation happened to me a few years ago while i was fueling up the car in preparation for a storm. That was a few years ago. I would suggest you investigate all the modules in the doors, as well as the convenience unit behind the dash board. For me, that was the beginning of central locking and window problems which ultimately resulted in the front door control units having to be replaced.

about a year ago my sunroof opened & closed itself a few times all by itself....never happened since.

I would only investigate something bizzare if it kept happening.

The 177 means No communication/sporadic error

If the ignition was quickly switched on and off (so the cluster doesn't have time to initialise) it could have caused this problem. After 17 minutes the problem goes away and the CCU works normally again.

The usual cause of this is that the radio goes off after 10 minutes, so the owner flicks the ignition on and off to get the radio back.
