Tyres for a 2004 vRS

Featured Replies

Hi

I have seen many posts asking if 225/45 R17 tyres can be utilised on standard rims on an Octavia vRS replacing the standard 205/50 R17.

Everybody says that this is a common, almost standard replacement and if concerned about the effect on Speedo accuracy many posts direct the reader to

http://www.alloywheels.com/tyrecalc.asp

If this site is visited you can see a section named "Rim Width Calculator" if you enter 205/50 17 the site states that the rim size should be 5.5" to 7"

If 222/45 17 is entered the result is 7.5" - 9"

I cannot see if the max rim width for the standard tyre is 7"and let us assume that this is what is supplied for the standard rim how this can then be suitable for the wider option which should be a minimum of 7.5"

Am I missing something here ?

check tyre manufacturers recommendations for suitable tyre widths - i know bridgestone re050A are fine for standard alloys in 225 fitment

Hi,

My vRS is running on 225/45/17 Conti 3s...absolutely no problems.

The spare has the standard OEM 205/50/17 though :wonder:

I read somewhere the speedo reads a bit faster the you're actually going. That's about it.

I ran 225/45/17 Toyo's for years on my old Mk1 Octy vRS with no problems at all, indeed most of the older members did as they were a lot cheaper than the 205's.

I have 225/45/17 Toyo's all round on mine

Thanks all

I guess that the calculator on http://www.alloywheels.com/tyrecalc.asp is more of an advisory than absolute then ;)

I'm going to try Kumho KU39's in the 225/45 guise

another thumbs up for 225 toyos!

It has been said on here before that some vrs came with 225s as standard as there was a shortage of 205 tyres.
