Featured Replies

Strictly speaking yu don't need the special tools, but there is no timing Mark on the cam on those so it's difficult, you need to pop the rocker cover off and then place a flat bar into a slot in the end of the cam, you could just lock the injection pump pulleyvwith a drill bit.. You can adjust the belt tensioner with a pair of cir clip pliers but again it's tricky to do

Tbh you can buy a set of locking tools for that engine from laser for about £15 check out the website.

any pointers to correct set! or elsewhere(ebay)

do you know offhand what size drill bit for the pump?

the bar in the end off the camshaft should not be a problem(i have a "hayne`s" bible) to guide me through the darkness!:D

I believe you can get laser tools from halfords, they might be able to order it for you

I fired up google and there's plenty of online suppliers like amazon, etc that do them for under a tenner. Word out.

Can't remember offhand what size drill bit you need, but it's not an odd one - 5 or 6 mm or similar. I had a set of locking tools that were "generic", cost me about £15, and they did the trick. Tom's right about the tension adjustment though, it's not easy with circlip pliers, the right tool makes it a PoP.

the timing belt kit for that engine int too expensive so you should be ok, no need to replace the water pump at the same time on those as it not driven by the timing belt, make sure you buy a new rocker cover gasket too because they sometimes fall apart.

That tensioning wrench will work yes, but it's not the type I would use on that engine because of limited clearance, I would use the Low profile right angled one. The one I use is a sealey vs12472, i got mine when it was on promo from the tools van for about £15 but they are normally about £40... But you should be fine with the one you've purchased.

Sorry for the terrible spelling, bloody iPad keeps thinking for itself and autocorrecting words.

i have already got a "gates" timing belt kit, (£46 delivered), but i never gave the rocker cover gasket a thought, so will get one anyway just in case, thanks, tibsy
