I'm currently looking at buying myself an 07 plate octavia 2.0 tdi (140hp).

I've read that they can have some pretty serious problems like porous/cracked cylinder heads, blown turbos, injector issues, dpf, dmf etc, how common are these issues? or are they blown out of proportion by forums as a lot of these things can be.

The car I'm looking at is an approved used one with around 38k on it with full skoda history.

Is it a safe bet or could I be potentialy looking at constant trips to the dealers?, as it's an approved used I'm not too worried but am thinking more for when the years warranty is up.

I have also read about "cracked cylinder heads, blown turbos, injector issues, dpf, dmf" but have only experienced the Blown Turbo. Forums always tend to highlight the failures in cars.

The DPF is of No concern if you are looking at the PD140 as it doesn't have one :thumbup: , the DMF isn't restricted to the PD140, most diesels on the market will suffer at some point depending on how they are driven.

It sounds like it could be a good buy (depending on price) with low milage and FSH, do you have anymore details on it?

MY 2005 140 PTDI has 260 000 km and so far so good:)

The problem I've had were minors.

Though clutch was replaced at 250 000 but it turned out the problem was not with the clutch, but rather with some small piece of pressure pipe which costs 100 euros, but the whole clutch costs around 1500 euros....

Depending on the mileage and trim, £7990 may be a little more than the going rate for an '07 plate, more information?

It's only on 38k miles and like I say is an elegance model so has a few toys, don't know too much about skodas to be honest but gather the elegance is one of the better specs.

I expect it to be priced a bit more than the average due to it being a main dealer but I reckon the warranty that comes with buying from them is worth a small premium for the peace of mind.

You say you've suffered from a blown turbo, how early on did yours blow, was it an expensive fix?

Can't speak for Matt but mine started it's death throes at 103k

Also remember, people only post when their turbo goes bang, not if it doesn't. So you will find lots of reports from people who had problems with their 2.0tdi, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen to you :) odds are it won't

I should have put the milage in :blush: my turbo started to fail at 55k with FSH. I even replaced it with an OEM turbo as I doubt it will happen again

I recently paid £6999 for my car, it's a 2006 06 Octavia 2.0 TDI PD DSG Elegance with 38K on the clock too.

Didn't know you could buy a 2006 from a Skoda garage. Usually they tend to sell newer cars.

Good Lord, didn't know i was driving a time bomb.

No problem with my 140 pde dsg, just oil changes, filters.....

I'm on my second PD 140. Turbo's have been fine on both. First had 165 miles on it with no issues. Even original clutch! The beauty of motorway miles!

Started on the button first time every time. No smoke!

Full service by Skoda dealers.

My second, current Octy has half the mileage and I've had to have a new DMF (and new clutch & slave cylinder since it makes sense) and also a new radiator!

I get a bit of smoke from this one. Black when booting it and Blue on very cold starts. I think I also need new glow plugs since its rough to start on cold mornings.

I guess this could be the issue with it being serviced by Nationwide Autocentre's :/

I've had to fiddle with both to get smooth idle. Both seem to shake at idle rpm. Upping or lowering this with VCDS normally sorts. Depends if you are OCD like me.

Overall though they are cracking cars and I've never regretting getting one!

I have an '05 plate Octavia Elegance + extra's, bought it 2 years and 2 months ago for £7,000 on 64k miles. I'm now on 115k miles and the only major thing that I have had to replace was the Turbo. The variable vain was sticking and causing the turbo to cut out, driving without it really isn't that fun, however once i turned ignition off and on it reset it and worked again for a while then would cut out again. Although it was driveable if i drove very sensibly i wasnt happy that it wasnt fully functional so got Skoda garage to look at it. This is when they diagnosed problem and said they did not have the expertise to repair turbo and would be cheaper to just replace unit. I got the work done all in for £1150, with a 2 year guarantee (turbo replaced f.o.c if faults within 2 years).

Other than this it has just been the general wear and tear. I have the car serviced on the dot by the skoda garage. I do roughly 25-30,000 miles a year and so far I cannot fault the car. Exceptional road holding, performance surprises many and has got me through the worst winter yet with no troubles at all! People often laugh at me for owning a skoda, making the odd joke, but they soon change their tune when they get in it and realise that it's a little like a giant cockcroach....able to withstand a nuclear blast :)

Progress Skoda sold my old 2005 PD140 with 100K miles on the clock through the dealership not so long ago. Never had a problem with mine in all that time, it was a wonderful car.

My Leon PD 140 DSG has had no major problems: owned it since 20k miles, now has 60K.

The PD140 seems to have a reputation for being less reliable than the 1.9l engines, but other than a niggle (rough idle during warm-up sometimes) it's been fine for me.

I have a July 2004 Octy 2 PD140 BKD, and I've had all sorts of fun since it passed the 200,000 km mark. New turbo first, then the dreaded porous cylinder head - fixed with K-Seal, so far permanently. Done about 30,000 km since. Then the clutch and DMF needed replacing, which I did. Only it didn't solve the problem, which appears to be a worn crankshaft bearing. Symptoms are similar to a worn clutch - drag and trouble changing gear at low speed/low revs. Still goes bloody well once you're moving - bags of shunt, and I've had it up to 220 kmh on the clock without a grumble.

Apparently later BKD engines are better...
