Dodgy cambelt piccies.

Featured Replies

Took a couple of piccies of my cambelt whilst it was still in situ. Check out the lowest shot with me bending it between my legs! Its got some serious cracks in it! For info, this was removed at 60,500 miles from my TDI, which has spent part of its early life with a tuning box, and the last 25,000-30,000 miles under Jabbasport's management. ;) If that *may* have been a factor? Anyway, got a nice shiney new one now. Think it's made by FYK, or SYK? Not sure but I've been advised its the best aftermarket gear you can get (was more money than dealer cambelt kit, slightly)

Is that a cambelt between your legs, or are you just pleased to see us? ;)

 I sort of should have been expecting a comment like that, eh?

Surprised no-one's mentioned "Didn't know you liked having rubber between your legs!" :D

edit: Can a techie help by explaining the red residue on the top two piccies, please? What is that stuff?

I Didn't know you liked having rubber between your legs?

Well you said it!

Is that a new form of trouser snake :D

I'm no techie but it looks like rust!!

I'd hazard a guess at that red thing looking like a sticker thats come off. Probably says replace me when I fall off.

The red stuff does sort of look like it may be water inflicted. Not had a water pump failure at any point have you Jason?

Watch out on eBay for cambelt for sale....one careful owner, never raced. ;)

I dont think the red coating looks like it should be there, looks the same colour as the coolant. Have you been having to topup the coolant recently Jason.

Is it dust off the belt?

I don't know - Not had a water pump failure to my knowledge, not while I've owned the car. Not had any engine trouble whatsoever! So that red stuff is a little odd. Coolant level is fine, but I shall check now. Its only inside the cambelt cover though - no red stuff anywhere else viewable with the plaggy engine cover off. :)

It wasn't the red paint originally on there by any chance ?

It does prove it's worth doing a cambelt replacement a little sooner than 60k miles, especially when driven 'at revs'

I was thinking the same thing

Could sell it to that guy who keeps trying to sell that dodgy motor ;) you know the one :D

I can assure everyone this fooked old cambelt is going in the bloody bin, or I'll keep it hanging off my wall as a permanent reminder to check my cambelt more often! :D Seriously thinking of a change at 100k now! :)

OH dear ....early mornings...... clicked on and answered the wrong thread
