"errr" sound

Featured Replies

Hi,

Hope that someone has encountered this issue before or maybe knows the likely hood of the issue.

Not sure whether it is the change of the fuel filter but after having changed the filter.

Initially it was not all the time the sound of "err" is heard (like the rubbing of gears)when I stepped

on my acceleration pedal. The I checked with the mechanics and they claimed that it maybe due to "pinging" and

asked me to chnage to a higer octane of petrol.

I have sinced tried 98 octane petrol and still the "errrrr" sound is heard each time I pressed on the pedal.

Anyone gurus can help, please.

Thank-you in advance.

You mean "pinking", not "pinging".

Pinking is the noise you here when the petrol is pre-igniting in the cylinder before the spark comes to ignite the fuel / air mix. Can be caused by a lot of things ... carbon in the engine, spark timing not correct, low grade fuel. It sounds like the name says ... a metallic pink, pink. Normally only noticed when the engine is struggling, ie big throttle opening in a gear that is too high for the conditions.

Definitely not an "errrr" noise ....
