Vrs fuel consumption

Featured Replies

Took delivery on my vrs 2 weeks ago and after 1400miles I cannot grumble at the fuel consumption :), long runs getting anything between 38-45mpg and overall averaged out at 32.6mpg (still rising) and that's not hanging about. Really happy with it

Sounds identical to mine. Glad your enjoying it :D

Sounds like mine too :-) enjoy dude!!

Sounds exactly like mine, getting better as well

Hmm, my full tank's average consumption is around 32 mpg inlcuding lots of home>work>home kilometres, but some spirited routes as well. My best so far for the 10KM route from home to work, (which represents more than 60% of my mileage), is 44mpg, and that is driving it like an old lady! Probably because the route is not long enough and during the first 1/3 of it, the engine is still warming up. Anyway, from various tests I have found out that the car can potentially be economical and that the consumption can improve even higher than the 44 mpg.

The problem, at least for me, is that you have to be a shaolin monk in order to achieve these numbers. It all goes according to plan, until an idiot in an A3 or 320 or whatever it is, starts pushing... Well then I am giving them exactly what they want, but there goes my calm and economical drive!

Of course, I wonder sometimes if it makes any sense having bought a vRS and driving it at 2000 rpm maximum... So any comparison with the rest of the Fabias is totally wrong in my opinion. If I want to compare the vRS's consumption I will do it with respect to "equivalent" cars, and there, my friends' Alfa Mito 155ps and the Mazda MX5 160ps struggle to go above 28mpg, so yes, the vRS is economical at its own range... In fact every other car I know of similar specs in terms of power and performance, is more fuel-hungry than the vRS (except maybe from the Polo GTi which also has lower CO2 emissions).

I am also curious to see if consumption will improve a bit, when I do the first oil change and replace the Shell 5w30 which was initially filled by the dealer, with Castrol Edge Turbo Diesel 5w40. Castrol claims better economy but it may be just a marketing trick AFAIK.

OMG the Mito tb155 i had gto me 18.7 mpg average on the first tank, 21.2 on the second and i tried to drive sensibly on my third tank and got 22mpg, just thought i should thrash it after that point, until i gave it back for a 170 cloverleaf model which imo is a faster car than the vRS despite being 10bhp less the engine is much more fiesty and eager

2000 miles in and I'm getting 39 MPG.

Not used a drop of oil either!

Happy days!

... which imo is a faster car than the vRS despite being 10bhp less the engine is much more fiesty and eager

Probably you mean that it can park faster than a vRS due to the manual gearbox and that I agree. Other than that the vRS is quicker at all measurements of 0-100, 80-110, 80-120 KM/H in just every review that its out there.

Of course everybody has his own "perception" of speed...

Haha yes I love it, nippy little thing especially for 1.4!! On way to work I get 46mpg (on the 1 mpg readout of current journey) as it's mainly downhill and long 60mph and then 30mph costant plus at 6am i don't tend to be in the mood for booting it haha, and comin home 35-37mpg still pretty good

Best 48.8mpg on a 55-60mph run on a quiet motorway..

Worst 23mpg on a manic lake district blast..

Low 40's at legal clear motorway speeds..

Low 30's on urban commute..

Best is 52mpg whilst coasting on A roads.

Worst is 12mpg going round Castle Combe emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Usually get 36-45mpg on 13 miles into work on A roads.

A Mito Weighs 1220kg and a VRS 1318kg,

It's an Alfa vs a Skoda

Put it this way, after living with a 170 CLoverleaf with it's fantastic adjustable suspension as standard and Dynamic driving mode that beefs up the torque curve i was hugely dissapointed in the vRS, how it 'felt' much slower and understeered around roundabouts that the Mito would have flew through....

on paper there figures might look the same but in real life the Mito is the sportier car and i couldn't see a vRS Fabia keeping up with it.

both suffer from numb electric power steering and a lack of feel that doesn't inspire huge levels of confidence and makes them feel decades behind the clio 200 dynamically

Maybe the sexy Steering wheel the italian leather seats and the Bose sound system and Turbo boost gauge in the Mito make you feel like your in something sportier than you actually are.

The main reason i am a fan now of the Fabia over the Mito is because i don't have the 21k i would need for a fully specced Mito Cloverleaf and they never do things like No Vat deals. i refuse to pay over 20k for a supermini.

both have similar combined fuel economy figures, the difference is the Mito eggs you on to drive drive faster, whereas the vRS constantly reminds you that it's only a fabia and not to expect too much

"It's an Alfa vs. a Skoda" ??? What does that mean anyway? I am so happy every time I am sitting in my vRS's seat, that I trully enjoy my ride in it. Couldn't say the same for the Alfa 155 Mito of my friends in which I've been a lot of times, and I have noticed several small issues on the build quality. Sounds like you're much influenced from the italian marketing crap...

Anyway, the vRS is known to lack the ultimate sport handling and behaviour but it's offering the everyday practicality witch all its competitors cannot offer and that is why one should choose it. Most people I've met moaning about the steering and the sporty behaviour of the vRS have not the skills to bring a car at its limits anyway, and the few ones I know that they have a car that they bring it to its limits, they also have a 2nd one for their everyday transportation. I don't wonder why. It's not the absolute behaviour of the vRS that should make one buy it alone, that is why there is no 3door version. You buy this car because it can cover normal everyday routes but also give some proper hell when you ask it.

And finally, one of the mostly recognized characteristic of the vRS, noted in magazines, reviews, and from people here that did track days, is its ability to exit the corners at much higher speeds than anticipated due to the XDS. So even there it would be the mito who would have a problem keeeping up... I leave alone the advantage of DSG in other types of routes where quick shifting would be necessary...

PS. What car do you drive? I am a bit confused after all your posts...

Your not the only one tbh...

I looked at the Mito but being a lot more, reviews saying the brakes weren't to clever and basically being a Punto (think paying 26k for an A1 when it's essentially the same underneath as other VAG cars) I gave it a miss. It's well known that Skodas have softer setups, SEAT are harder and VW is something in the middle. I'm loving mine so far, does everything I want it too and more and for the money you can't beat it. Since it's VAG many parts are changeable which gives plenty of options for mods. Remap, add a RARB and perhaps uprate suspension easily to make it even better and not for much money either

I was initially disappointed at the fuel consumption of my vRS Estate; never more than 35 mpg (46 claimed by Skoda).

However I now have 8500 miles on the clock and the mpg has improved significantly.

Recent journey of 10 miles at 50 mph and 25 miles motorway at often, *0 mph, the mpg was 43.

The overall is now up to 39 mpg.

I recon this is very good considering the performance on tap.

Winter will see this drop with shorter journeys and cold starts.

Tony :)

Did a run to Aberystwyth and back via a few places so about 200 miles. I had 40mpg on the way up and 36mpg on the way back which is good considering there's only now 400 miles on the clock. Still getting used to the fuel gauge dropping so quickly and feels weird adding miles to it. But I bought it to use and enjoy so if it ends up having 100k on it after 5 years then so be it

Mines about the same as the op, although it plummets the more the wife drives it.

Haha I'm just getting used to the fuel gauge too ha it's got alot more notches on it compared to the corsa I had before so looks to drop quicker when actually it doesn't ha, although not too impressed with 1.3l of oil in 1500miles

Poor MPG? You need to coast harderemoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

I'm in a pickle at the moment. I want to blast it to help it run in quicker but want to drive slower to save fuel. Up to 450 miles now. Coasting really helps. The minute I get behind another car I'm off throttle or use very little
