Alarm flashing but no sound

Featured Replies

Hello.

I have an 06 vrs octavia and wanted to know how the alarm is meant to sound as I notice that mine only flashes the indicators.

What's the best way to test the alarm activation and to set it off?

Thanks

Best way is to open the windows, lock the car, and wave your arms about in there.

Or - if you can, get your car hooked up to VCDS and turn on "Confirmation of lock (Horn)"

This will enable the locking/unlocking "pips"

If these are not working, then good chance your alarm isn't working - though, if you HAVE got access to VCDS - you can get it to scan and see if there are any errors related to the alarm....

Well if the siren is defunct then it will not sound anyway. Happened to my old Passat some years ago when a control module was flooded. I did not bother to get it fixed.

As to how to actually test. Leave a window open and lock the car then wave a hand inside?

Thanks for your quick responses. I'll give it a try.

If it is defunct, I'll get it sorted under warranty as I've only had it 2/3 months.

Could be a faulty door or bonnet switch or loom corrosion.

Just had mine changed on my FL TDI VRs.

There is another way of seeing if you have an alarm fault, and it doesn't need VCDS.

Lock the car with the remote, and look at the LED on the top of the driver's door card. If it flashes like mad and stays flashing quickly, there is a fault. It should flash rapidly, then very soon settle into a regular on-off cycle every 2 seconds or so.

Mike

It stays on for about 10 secs (doesn't flash rapidly), then changes to a steady flash once every second or so.

Another easy way to test the alarm is lock the car with the remote, then unlock with the key, don't put the key in the ignition.

The alarm should then go off after around 30 seconds and can only be stopped by putting the key in the ignition and turning it on.

The other good way is to lock the car with wife inside......

Sorry to bump an old thread but my alarm is dead. I have heard that the module is under the drives foot well. I am hoping to pick one up second hand and see if I can replace it myself, VAG-COMM confirms it is dead and Id rather not spend £100s replacing it with a brand new one.

Can anyone suggest the module or how I would go about finding it?

Cheers guys :)

Part no for the siren: 1K0951605C

Bluevrs has written a useful guide here on replacing it: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/219447-alarm-no-longer-beeps-when-activating/#entry2585850

I used to have the pdf file, but although sounds daunting is quite east to do. The part number is 1K0951605C This is for a new alarm which replaces 1K0951605A which is fault free.I paid £92.31 from a VW dealer as was cheaper than from skoda. (includes vat) Jack up offside front and remove Offside front wheel (Drivers side) remove the felt wheel arch liner at the top and to the rear to get in to wheel arch . Get a torch and look up then slightly to the left. You will see a black box, remove the nut holdind it and remove or loosen enough to reach inside. The alarm is inside. If you buy the alarm 1st you will see how it connects, remove old one and connect new one. replace the box, you will need a ring spanner I think it is a 8mm or 10mm. Try the alarm off and on 1st to make sure it is connected ok. refasten liner and replace wheel. I new mine had failed as it was scanned with vag-com , alarm not responding, and also lights flashed etc when activated but no sound. Is yours sett to chirp when activated. It really is quite simple to do and you get a great satisfaction from doing yourself , and the dosh you save. Get any nearest dealer, skoda to price match my price,I used Clare James Automotive Halifax. You could just say you have found the part but you are nearer can you price match, part with no vat is 82.69,but got them to 78.56 ex vat . Hope this helps, good luck

Searching the part number on ebay brings up units priced at around £35 last time I checked.

Thanks for the quick responses guys! :)

VAG-COMM tells me Alarm Horn - No signal/Communication.

This leads me to believe that the siren itself has packed up, not the control unit under the drivers foot well. This is backed up by the fact that the lights still flash when I do unlock/lock it.

Can anyone confirm this? Logic has failed me in the past! ;)

Yes - the alarm siren on my Dad's 05 Octavia died and had that exact fault - No signal/comms.

Alarm is in drivers wheel well - get the car up on a jack, get the wheel off, unscrew all the screws on the lining and get it out, alarm is located upwards.

I found I had to bend the metal casing to get it out but thankfully it bent back without breaking. Maybe I did it wrong, but changing it was an easy enough job.
