Alarming rattle

Featured Replies

Have been away in north Wales last week and all started in the usual fuss free quiet Yeti way. A couple of days ago I started to get a noise from the underside of car, almost like a tin can being dragged, not continuous but most noticeable on corners and uneven roads. I stopped the car in a lay-by, and out with the jack to remove each wheel in turn for a better view of suspension and driveshafts and discs, but could not see any problems, the intermittent sound has got worse, now sounds like weights being changed on a barbell, the clanging together of metal. The exhaust system looks fine. Anyway will contact my dealer on Monday, but not very happy, if something major has failed after only 9,200 miles and a first service in July. The car has been treated gently also.

Call Skoda Assistance - they'll have a look and get you a replacement if your's is sickly ...

From what I can read it could be a small stone blocked between the brake disk and the brake pad, something I had to endure a lot of times on my previous Octavia, and my wife as well on her Fabia. Usually after a few days the stone goes away (hopefully)

Thanks Hector, for some reason I had it in my head that cover was for the first year only, I'll call them in the morning.

I did try to look for that, but could not see anything. What is really disconcerting is the sound location seems to change, and at times reminds me also of a out of balance prop shaft that gets excited by uneven surfaces.

Our Fabia did this every now and again due to our gravel driveway. It sounds horrific but is usually simply cured by finding somewhere quiet and driving backwards and forwards and jabbing on the brakes.

I had it happen once in my Octavia and again just the once in my Yeti.

Wife has just told me that she had the same with her Roomster. Someone at her work put his hand behind the wheel and flicked the pebble from between the disc and the dust shield.

Thank you for comment, I'll investigate again, I'd feel a bit of an idiot summoning help, if it is as simple as a stone of other debris, but it does seem to produce a variety of noises, some you might expect from a stone rubbing, but others are more the sound of loose metal clashing, and its only intermittent, driving to collect dog from kennels this morning, I thought it had gone for the first few miles but it started again on the return journey. Apart from that the car feels quite and smooth, and I must say the engine started to feel great after about 8000 miles, the 110 horses surprise me sometimes in the lower gears.

Reverse your yeti... :)

Reverse your yeti... :)

I have several times over a hundred yards or so, perhaps I need to be more forceful with the brakes?
