What made u buy a skoda?

Featured Replies

I liked the size of the Octy... big boot, bit of rear leg room....but the deciding factor was when I scared the crap out of my pal who drives a FTO gtr(200bhp)... "how fecking fast??" he asked

The finance had run out on my Polo and the lack of Aircon was really annoying me. The local police force use unmarked Octy vRS's for sneaky beaky type surveilance work and my police mate had bought one after driving one 'undercover' (along with his sergeant and the DI)

The Octy vRS ad been playing on my mind and I was really after a Golf GTI or Seat Leon Cupra. Drove past the Skoda garage and there it was, the shiny black, brooding Octy vRS looking like it wanted a fight with the other cars on the forecourt.

I asked if I could have a test drive and the salesman said no problem straight away, cunningly taking me out in a pimped up '03 plate. that was that, sold straight away. The excellent customer service helped as well.

Changed Jobs so no more company car :( Looked at allthe contenders ....but I wanted a fair sized car and reasonably new as well to tow a caravan one test drive later and I had bought a 1.9 SDi Octy estate ....brand new kept it for 3 years and loved it but then a car in the paper beckoned me ...second hand ......130 bhp.......loads of toys.........only one year old.....diesel....and it looked good......phoned very quickly and got first refusal....went to the dealer for a test drive..and he handed me the keys and said just come back in half an hour and let me know if you want it.....answer YES so now I have an Octy elegance 130tdi pd and boy does it go well and tow well (dealer reckoned the caravan would be longer after a few trips) 40 to 50+ mpg low insurance very good build quality...and a free smile every single time I drive it :D

I'm hooked

For me, it was because I liked the look of the Octavia vRS, but couldnt really justify the size / running costs. I was going to get an ibiza TDI Sport, but then I saw the Fabia vRS... here was a car with a "baby" Octavia vRS style, but with the same chassis and engine as the TDI Sport. Perfect!
Pretty much the same for me. In fact, before the vRS came out, I always prefered the fabia elegance. Just liked the look of it more than the beezer. I was about to seriously consider the beezer and the only thing stopping me was "if only Skoda made a decent TDI sporty version". They must have heard me :D

Test drove one quickly with the dealer. Wasn't that impressed with the demo service but that was the dealer more than the car.

Inverse badge snobbery did it for me - oooh and the feeling of exclusivity ;)

Loved the car so much that I'm now on my second (the first one having a rather unfortunate ending last crimbo :( ). My second however, is just as good if not better than the first. :D but I somehow still miss my xenon lights :o

For me, inverted snobbery a bit (lots of people where I work had company BMWs at the time), really liked the look of the original Octavia and the glowing reports in the magazines. Test drove a 1.6 GLXi in 1999 - loved it - bought it. Octavias were still rare then, so I liked that too - a bit exclusive in my Skoda! Fantastic car that was, really reliable, lovely ride, reasonable amount of power.

So when the vRS came out I had to have one. Got my vRS in 2001. Most of the time I loved it - on the right road in the right conditions I'd be grinning like a loon. However, coil pack and engine management woes, combined with the fact that I spend most of my time on the wrong roads in the wrong conditions saw me trade it for my Superb in 2003. Part of me still misses it - it was a beautiful car.

Superb has been fantastic too. Still pretty rare, really comfortable, economical but with plenty of power when you need it. Coming to the end of the warranty now though (it was an ex-demo), and I fell in love with the Octy II when I drove one......

Only thing I don't like about Skodas is that the dealers seem to be getting more and more like mainstream dealers, and that's a shame. They used to be the best by far.

My interest stemmed from Autocars long term test report...!!

I was learning to drive in a VW Golf, and REALLY wanted one. But, I only had enough money for a P reg VW Polo CL ... or ... an S reg Felicia GLi! I thought bugger it and went for the higher spec / lower mileage Skoda. Loved it so much I've now got a Furby Comfort 1.4

:) Octavia tdi + fabia tdi, Basicaly went for galvanized chassis, fuel economy, build quality, NOT boy racer (no peaked cap), Octavia for towing our caravan , would like an Octavia 4x4 h/b deisel with a decent ground clearance , Fabia is my wifes car for a runaround

For me it was the rarity of the Fabia vRS, value for money, my deep hatred of VW dealers, the quality of the car, and the look of horror on the face of the cocky Audi/BMW drivers when you leave them behind and their passengers laugh at them.

Funny really .Nearly every(in fact probably every) person on this site could have a nearly new x type jaguar ( or similar)to be sitting on their driveway and yet we all chose a skoda!

Keep teasing my wife that she could have had a 2/3 year old X type and it would have saved us

The Price, the VW Build Quality, PErformance, New 2.0 Diesel Engine, Price, Specifiaction and features, driving position, driveability, the price.

Had a 2001 VW Passat 1.9TDi on order as a Company Car before our Company scrapped the Car Scheme and moved to ECO Scheme, so I opted out debated the Octy 1 but bought a Honda Accord instead. Then last year traded the Accord in for the Octy 2 and have never looked back. Road Tax

I pretty convinced it was the car that I wanted after reading up on what was available in terms of a small sporty diesel hatch. Then read the Autocar long term review, so went and test drove one and that sold it to me.

The fact I know that guy that designed it had nothing to do with it!

I was told about the vRS by a mate who drove one down in Cornwall. Then a WRC vRS turned up in local dealer in Sarfend, drove it and absolutely ADORED her!! Then my xantia forced my hand by destroying its engine at 85mph on the M4 last April. Soooooo i searched for a vRS WRC and found my baby oooop north like!! Paid 12k for her aaaaaaand its the best money i have ever spent. The performance is stunning and the looks I get are grin expanding!! In fact last year at Le Mans, guy virtually mugged his girl to get camera to take 2 pics, one of a Lancia Stratos (YUUUUUMMMMMY) and MY Octy WRC!!!! Happy days!! LMAO!!:thumbup::rofl:

what made you buy a skoda?

my husband kept going on about the octy vrs so much that in the end i agreed to test drive one i had been looking at the audi a4 and really liked them, so i test drove one just to shut him up. I was amazed that it was a skoda! I ve always thought of skodas as one of those cars you wouldn't be seen dead in. I am now converted and the very proud owner of a yellow octy vrs, the second one i tested. :D

I had driven a few cars in my time, had my first taste of the vRS Octy on a 53 plate loved it, then changed it for another car, needed a soft top, that time of life, just sold that for another vRS Octy which is unpassible for the price. if only they made them with retractable roofs, oh that would be heaven :)

had one of the old estelles as a first car years ago coz i fancied something different. people used to take the p1ss but i didnt really care. nowadays they are a VW/audi for people who havent got thier head uptheir 4rse! had a guy say to me the other day 'yeah its nice, but its no bmw is it?' my reply was ' thats exactly why i bought it!'.

 its funny coz its true  :hilarius: :hilarius:

What a fantastic car...and it makes me smile when passers-by remark on the similarity to the BMW :rofl::rofl:

My girlfriend's mother said that when she saw my Octy the first time. I told her not to be so rude! ;)

I always research before I buy. Skoda was a good deal, reliability was a big factor. Test drive confirmed build quality. Hide the badge and its a BMW or a Merc, outsiders not in the know just don't realise what their missing

Furby vRS

4 days old now, coming along great too :D

Kids not allowed in with their shoes on yet and my brother spilt blackcurrent juice in the boot yesterday

Had an Opel Omega 3.0 V6 then...my childhood friend went and bought himself a Skoda Fabia, came over to my place and showed it to me...I was just like 'What the f*** is a Skoda?'...I had not heard of it at all before so was a little skeptical about the brand...then the 2.0 came out...so I decided to give it a shot and take it for a test drive...cheap including the body kit, great interiors, exteriors and a beautiful warranty package that came along with it....so as for that test drive..

Bought it on the spot, February 15th 2003.

Hi

The Fabia vRS did it for me. All motors are a compromise in some way or another. The Fabia is a great mix for me of performance, economy, build quality, space and residuals.

all the best

Brian Jones

The fact that there are much VW parts in it, for a fraction of the price of a Golf with similar specs. (new octavia). And I just liked the stylish looks of the car, tbh, it looks just great !

The car has finally arrived yesterday at the dealer, I'm picking it up tomorrow :-) I'll post some pics too!
