Does the Yeti diesel engines use a DPF?

Does the Yeti diesel engines use a DPF?

Yes. I'm pretty that all new diesels have to have one in order to meet current emissions regulations.

It doesn't need wuffle juice like some do (Renault? Peugeot?) It does "regenerate" from time to time (like a Borg, only not so often) which can be disconcerting the first time you notice it happening - it smells like there's fire somewhere (which in a way there is, but a very controlled one).

My driving pattern is close to being the worst possible for a diesel: a dozen or so short, urban journeys during the week, a slightly longer outing or two at the weekend and a decent, long, fast run to clear the pipes out only once or twice a month. I've had no problems with the DPF on mine so far - touches wood, crisdeg fugstwern (hmm, turns out it's surprisingly difficult to type with your fingers crossed).

If you use the forum search function on here I'm sure you'll find lots of previous discussions about the DPF.

The other thing that diesels have is the dreaded dual-mass flywheel, which is widely forecast to be the ultimate cause of the collapse of western civilisation and a return to the dark ages across the known world (and Essex). Funnily enough, though, my one of those has also been entirely trouble-free so far. Just luck, I guess...

Welcome!

Yes-I'm not sure but think they are near enough universal now to be euro compliant.

Is it your dentist or your osteopath who is responsible for you considering a Yeti? (one time BMW cooper "S" owner :D )

There are a lot of scare stories about DPF's but these generally do not apply the VW/Skoda etc engines. Drive them only a mile each day and of course you will have a problem but with a normal driving set up you should not experience any issues. If the warning light does come on then simply drop the gears and drive for 20 minutes or so at speed, legally, and and that will burn off the accumulated soot.

Some companies have big problems, read the Mitsubishi ASX forum where that car seems to have some problems, but the VW engine has gone past that now.

Neither of the above  Living in rural North Yorkshire and the past two winters a 4x4 is a must, i bought a cheap Vitara which has worked well but, time has come to replace and the i like the Yeti looks and the exellent reviews that the motoring press give it, i have been concidering the 2.0 TDI CR110 :p which i will most likley buy early next year as i can get another winter out of the Vitara.

The JCW Mini has been sold :giggle: but i still have a Classic Mini Cooper Sport ;)

Thanks for the replys.

As said, yes. The same as every other diesel car now to meet Euro 5 emission regulations.

edit: written at the same time as post above.

Potential problems aside I LOVE the fact that when I put my foot down in the Monster I do not leave a tell tale cloud of smoke behind me... You can see when someone has just geared down to overtake and their car releases a plume of smoke behind it. Not anymore in a DPF equiped car. The people behind won't know if you have a petrol or a diesel until they see the badge (and then they are too close!) :giggle:
