Errors! Help needed please.

Featured Replies

Last night my Vrs threw up error codes 19557 & 19558, tried to clear, but CEL straight back on, without even going out after the clearing.

Now reading up on this, it is an EGR flap issue. I've not disconnected it, so something has gone wrong. I'm going to diagnose this evening, I'll look at vacuum pipe at both ends, and see if I can see anything obvious, but I've read on other threads here that it could be something as simple as a blown fuse.. Which would be consistant with the CEL not going out.

I've looked at the fusebox layout, but could not obviously identify which one it was - Help! Is it the main fusebox, or is there another hidden in the engine bay?

Also, I read that it could be a wire that has broken - where is said wire? I've not had a look under bonnet yet - it was dark when it happened!

Many thanks

Sorry im useless as I dont have vagcom etc but if your EGR is broken I will buy it :)

Is that the anti-shudder valve?

I would check the vaccum pipes to the actuator and try pushing it by hand to check it is moving freely.

Yes, had read ross-tech & all other related things I could find on Briskoda & the interwebs - so I dived straight in and had an investigation after work.

Took boost pipes off, had a look inside the unit. Flap moves freely, and looks pretty clean in there.

Unlike around the underside of the boost pipes.. Mucky from a previous leak (these damn stupid boost pipe connectors).

Looked at the plug on the underside of the EGR/ASV, and one of the wires has broken. Right inside the plug, so a quick re-solder was pretty much out of the question.

(excuse the quality of the pic - was a tricky shot!)

So quickly popped to my local Stealer, and they sell the replacement plug for a few quid, but not in stock. The guy was pretty confused as to how I broke it.. Not sure myself really either.

All back together, and seems to be running fine, although seems a little more aggressive going up the gears (boost leak fixed perhaps, or the effect of no EGR?).

Question is now, what is the effect of this broken wire? I guess the ASV that would cut off air on shutdown would not operate, and possibly the EGR itself? And will I be alright doing a few hundred miles on it - got to go party in London this weekend!
