Wheel Wax - again

Featured Replies

Anyone experienced this product?

Collinite No. 845 - Insulator Wax

Although not specifically a wheel wax (as with Jetseal 109), it won a recent wheel wax test in Auto Express.

Yeah ,very good stuff I've just done my S2 wheels with it, it gives a nice wet look too. I will be doing the VRs wheels after the refurb. It's easy to use to(easy on/easy off)

Just bought some to apply to my Winter Alloys before they go on

Thanks for your replies - sounds as though A.E. were actually on the money for once. Wonder how it stacks up agianst this forum's favorite - Jetseal 109 ?

It should be better due to its resistance to road salt

Did my wheels in Gtechniq C5 a few months ago and Ive been impressed so far.

Cheers

Steve

845 is a good product, does alwasy amaze me how they manage to pick various products in AE to conduct these tests......... :|

Good choice, this is what my wheels currently wear and like C1, it's bomb proof and super durable.........

Now there's a surprise, thought you were a dedicated Jetseal man. How would you go about applying either the 845 or C5 over Jetseal or any other product come to that? Take it you would remove any prior coating before application - or would you go straight on top - with a clean base of course ?

Don't get me wrong, I still use Jetseal but now and again I do like a change and have pretty much most of the G-Techniq products on my motor as it stands.......

Any new sealant or wax you apply can be layered over anything existing but as in most cases this will be product specific and something like C5 ideally needs to be IPA'd before it's applied to ensure the best surface for sealing......

What about C2 Baker??

What about C2 Baker??

Good question Chris, currently on test on another vehicle but so far so good, a lot like Z8 in terms of application and it's very easy on and off, although there is little off to do really......

Only thing I am not keen on is the application, really don't like the bottle and the pump sprayer but this can be easily changed for a better item......

Will the IPA remove all traces of previous product, such as Jetseal, on its own? I'm considering trying the Collinite Insulator Wax and for a fair test I guess it needs a totally clean surface, .ie. free of any previous product.

If IPA doesn't remove it then not much else will...... ;)

Good enough, IPA it is - at least its easy. So if you were faced between the choices of 109 or C5 which one would you favour? Sorry to put you on the spot :giggle:

Good question......... :D

CG Jetseal 109 can be used for both paintwork and wheels so that has one advantage and C5 is marketed as Wheel Armour but there is plenty of literature on DW stating that maybe it's similar to C1 which is used on paintwork........ :|

Durability wise I think C5 has the edge but it will work out more expensive and it really does rely on a well prepped surface to get the most out of it, just like C1.......

I do like these Nano Sealants at the moment....... ;)

Thanks for your reply, no sooner had I put the Collinite Insulator Wax into pole position - now you've complicated matters with the C5 . Choices! Hmmm

Hey 845 will do the job, as will 476, FK 1000P, Autobahn, blah, blah, blah, the list goes on and on............

Maybe C5 is just flavour of the month at the moment...........

Anything will be better than nothing and I guess like some of the others 845 is a good choice as it can be used on paintwork......

The C5 starts in 25ml bottles - how many average sized wheels would that small size treat ? Also the last part of their quote appears too good to be true.

"Independently proven to outlast other rim coatings, C5 uses a unique chemical bond to become the functional surface of your rims making them dirt and brake dust repellent as well as being much easier to clean. A single application lasts up to one year."

try permanon. it is basically c1 but rebranded and a lot cheaper, can be used on wheels and paintwork

Less is more with most of these types of products so 25ml will be plenty doing a fair few sets of wheels.......

As for the one year claim, I am working on that at the moment........ :giggle:

Best not hold your breath, being pessimistic. that claim appears to be a tad optimistic to me :wonder: I contacted them a earlier and they stated that 25ml would do approx 5 'average' sized wheels. If it lasts a year then that's reasonable- less and it becomes expensive.

Think I'll await your findings on that one - guinea pigs, proof of the pudding etc etc.:giggle: You get a loads of applications from a bottle of Jetseal even if the durability is less than C5 - as you would with the Collinite 845 I guess.

Decided to go with the Collinite 845 Insulator Wax and have treated the wheels. Very impressed with the results plus the ease on and off but of course only time will tell on the durability front. My car had the Lifeshine treatment (in the deal) and has subsequently received AutoGlym SRP. Very tempted to layer it with the Collinite 845 since it is such a pleasure to use, easy peasy.. Anyone had experience of the 845 over SRP?

Nothing stated on Collinite's site about applying over other polishes and waxes, problem is that SRP will have filled any potential defects and 845 may not bond well in areas over the SRP and therefore reduce 845's durability characteristcis, this is just my theory though, haven't tried it so can't offer any further advice.........

The Lifeshine came with a 'goodies' bag of AG products. The SRP seems a decent enough polish to me although I'm sure there's better. AG recommend topping it off with their Extra Gloss Protection which I'm not too keen on since it tends to produce a white powdery residue on removal. Guess I could try the 845 over SRP and test the durability out. Then later on decide either revert back to the SRP treatment or carry on with the 845 - or clean the paintwork back and start again with the Collinite.:wonder:
