Correct/acceptable wheel sizes, Octy 2

Featured Replies

I'm in need of a set of steel rims to recycle the winter tyres off my old Octy 1, which are in 195/65 R15. I've got as far as (thinking I need) 6J15 5x112 rims, but I can't work out the offset.

Found this site (I live in France):

http://www.gopneus.com/pneus_search_results.php?categories_id=26&manufacturers_id=all&var1=6&var2=15&var3=5%2F112&var5=all&x=114&y=19

Interestingly, the ET 47s are some 20 Euros cheaper than the ET 45s. Obviously, 4 x 20 Euros = a lot of money... Hesitating here... Anybody able to help?

Either of those will be fine - there's only 2mm difference anyway! Take a look at the spare in your car and you'll see the offset of that (or check one of your current road wheels), then you can compare them on www.willtheyfit.com

Cheers, Julie! The spare is actually a 16", and normally 'as issued' it has 17-inchers, hence the problem...

This is getting silly though... Some sites say 35 - 38, others 45, others up to 47. I honestly don't know who or what to trust!

Assuming the 16s and 17s are the same width as the 15s you're looking at the diameter makes no difference at all to how far out your wheel will sit in the arch - that's what the offset is all about.

If it helps at all the standard wheel size on our FL vRS is 7.5x18 ET51 fitted with 225/40/18 tyres. Go onto www.willtheyfit.com and compare that with the wheel and tyre combination you're thinking of and you'll see how the wheels will fit. Better still, compare what you've got on your car at the moment to the wheel/tyre combination you want to use.

One other thing you may want to consider. I know that 15" wheels would definitely not fit over the front brakes on a vRS, but I couldn't say for sure if they would fit over your front brakes. On the other hand, 15s fit (just) on my mk1 Fabia vRS so if your car has 288mm brakes they should be OK.

Thanks, Julie - you're very patient! Yes, 15" wheels will fit over the brake disks on a 140, so there's no problem there. If you can fit ET 51s, I should be all right with 47s! I'll check on willtheyfit to make sure.

The willtheyfit site only lets you compare different wheel/tyre combinations - it's not a definitive list of correct fitments for any car. I would quickly check your spare for reassurance, but I'm pretty sure you'd be OK with ET47

Thanks again! Will do.

According to all the information you can find here or in Germanys boards, the maximum you can fit without modifying anything on the car is:

8" with an ET of 44. Means that you could fit a 6" with ET 44-25.4 = 18.6 without modifying the car.

Std skoda approved winterwheels for a VRS (16" because of the 312mm brakes) is 6x16 ET50 or 6.5x16 ET50.

So the wheels you mentioned should fit without any problems. Dont know how the rules (law) is in France. But we in Germany

have to stick to the laws and rules very stricktly.

Thanks, Magic62 - helpful advice there too.

Everything in France is predictably messy and badly organised, and we don't have the useful "authorised wheels and tyres" info you have on your German registration papers. Basically in France, you're not permitted to change anything on the car whatsoever, and so in theory it has to stay exactly as bought. In reality that isn't possible of course - nobody in his right mind will use 17" winter wheels for example - so it all gets very grey... Plus, the idea of winter tyres/wheels is fairly new in France; I've been using them for years, but then I travel to Germany quite a lot!

Try This

Skoda Wheel Size

Good one - they run from ET35 to 45, which looks about par for the course.

Thanks, all!
