The Fabia VRS MPG Test

No concentration required for mpg with cruise. Id risk saying you'd be at least 5mpg indicated up on that figure if you had cruise. if you look at the 'instant' figure its forever flying over 100mpg (inacurate I'm sure) but it goes to show there is an improvement. I get significantly more MPG using cruise.

The Fabia being tall and pretty blunt at the front is quite badly effected aerodynamically as the speed increases. On my 30 mile commute A roads and M1 my Passat will do 56mpg cruise set at 70, 54mpg cruise set at 75, 50mpg cruise set at 80 and around 48 mpg no cruise, heavier traffic, max 80mph.

Fabia 1.9 tdi same route 65mpg cruise set 70, 55mpg cruise set 75, 48mpg cruise set 80, 52 mpg no cruise mixed.

Fabia 1.2 tsi dsg. 50mpg cruise set 70, 46mpg cruise set 75, 40 mpg cruise set 80. 43mpg mixed.

Speed does hurt the Fabia's mpg more than the bigger saloon cars I've had.

For those that want cruise Sharkperformance can retrofit it. It's worth upto 5 mpg on clearish motorways in my experience.

Some friendly advice here to all of you using the MFD for your MPG calculations.

Do some calculations filling the tank to the same point & read off the trip miles, then reset trip to next tank fill, this will give you a closer real world mpg & a truer indication of how far off the MFD is.

OR

If you cant be bothered to do the calculation yourself, use Fuelley ( as in my signature)

As long as you determine what sort of error you are getting i've found vag mfd mpg readouts to be quite consistant.

Trouble with tank to tank fill ups it only gives you an overall figure and not one for specific trips. Especially when on the bigger vag diesels you can start pushing towards 1000miles per tank.

ANy idea of approx cost to retrofit cruise with shark or anyone else. I have a 1.2 tsi 86 btw which is still being run in (only 300 miles) so no cruise figures yet cos I'm varying the speed etc.

Their website says "From £95" but best to give them a call.
