High revs in DSG manual

Featured Replies

From a cold start mine idles at around 1100 in d but settles down to 800 once it's warmed up, although she always holds the rpm at 1100 in M and S regardless of the engine temp.

I suspect in S an M it holds the rpm higher as it assumes you want to have a quick launch so holds the rpm right at the bite :)

The idle speed should increase in Manual or Sport mode.

whilst were on the subject of the dsg, when i go from a driven gear into P i hear a noticeable clunk, is that normal (straight NO's will be ignored, deleted and sent straight to the recycle bin :p )

ive only covered 320 miles so maybe a new thing that will go but i didnt expect any clunks, its not an over the stereo loud but i can hear it

Well, mine does do the same, and i think it has been mentioned before but can't sware to that. I have assumed, so willing to be corrected, that the clunk is the clutch disengaging and taking the car out of gear. Any other suggestions?

BTW, in relation to the OP, yes mine does the same, so in essence, Yes.

Wow :o , a big and full of confidence "NO".

And that assumption is based on what exactly?? Is it more that you think it shouldn't be like this or what? Please enlighten us if you really have some hidden knowledge based on the DSG 7-Speed, because that's the way it works on ALL our cars out there, so maybe there is something wrong with all of them................. :wonder:

Generally speaking, there should be a temporary ban for such misleading posts, then people would think twice where they should reply and where not.

I assume you're trolling? Ban people for talking crap on forums? Interesting idea.

As it happens, I'm wrong. I didn't see the forum this is posted in, and mistakenly assumed DSG6, which, IME, doesn't.

This. He's been here ages and given good advice before. He's just wrong this time we all make mistakes. :D

Why, thank you (both you and nockmeister). I'm flattered.

Yep the vast majority of dsg cars don't do this. This is just specific to small capacity petrols with the dry clutch dsg.

The poster didn't say which car he had in his post so would be an easy mistake to make if you were just browsing all new posts rather than model specific forums.

Cheers

Which is exactly what I was doing :)
