Is it normal that the idle jumps from approx 800rpm in D mode to 1100rpm in manual mode?

No.

Wow :o , a big and full of confidence "NO".

And that assumption is based on what exactly?? Is it more that you think it shouldn't be like this or what? Please enlighten us if you really have some hidden knowledge based on the DSG 7-Speed, because that's the way it works on ALL our cars out there, so maybe there is something wrong with all of them................. :wonder:

Generally speaking, there should be a temporary ban for such misleading posts, then people would think twice where they should reply and where not.

This. He's been here ages and given good advice before. He's just wrong this time we all make mistakes. :D

just so im not the odd one out, mine does it too :whew: thats a relief

Well of course it does... See that's what I can't get, we are not talking about something qualitative here, something that everybody realizes in a different way or that happens occassionally. It's there, it's always there, and it's there at these exact figures > 1100 rpm. It's the simplest thing that you could verify at EVERY vRS out there.

So someone coming and saying a big "NO." and that's all, is what I find most irritating. What good could such an absolute attitude do especially when you dont' know what you'te talking about on this subject? Somebody could potentially worry about it and start bugging the dealers etc. etc. I would perfectly understand a "It doesnt sound normal to me", because this leaves some space that hey I could be wrong, but a simple "NO" is saying "you got a problem, bye" and that is what stroke me...

Worse thing than nobody replying to you in a forum, is somebody replying to you using false information.

whilst were on the subject of the dsg, when i go from a driven gear into P i hear a noticeable clunk, is that normal (straight NO's will be ignored, deleted and sent straight to the recycle bin :p )

ive only covered 320 miles so maybe a new thing that will go but i didnt expect any clunks, its not an over the stereo loud but i can hear it

This is getting OT but I know what you mean. If I don't know an answer to something I'd rather not post. I could put doubts in someone's head that there is a serious problem when actually it's normal. Some people worry more than others. I'm terrible for worrying and have been sick with it in the past. Not so bad now as it's pointless worrying as it gets you nowhere

My car holds at 1100rpm in both Sport and manual modes.

I also hear a bit of a noise when shifting between modes but I am guessing that is like any gearbox as it selects the relevant drive.

One thing I have found is if you do a paddle shift whilst in Auto mode the gearbox stays in manual until you push the gear lever over to manual and back to auto... anyone else found that to be an irritation?

i hit the paddle by accident once and it said 5 instead of d5 but after a short while it went back to d5 on its own

cant remember how long it took now but could have been 15-20 seconds. i wasnt sure what to do so i left it to see

Not exactly, it stays in Manual for just a little longer, say 10 sec, as its suspecting you would want to do another manual shift soon, and then If you have not done another manual shift during these 10 secs, it goes back to Auto itself.

Usually you can't wait these 10 secs, so you do what you described, OR, a better and quicker way to go back to auto is pressing the shift up paddle and HOLD it there briefly. It will shift up and (as long as you;re keeping it pressed for 1-2 secs) it will go back to Auto as If you did it the "stick" way. I think this solves your problem ;)

I shall try that hold trick.

Thanks everyone for the reassurance that it is normal, it is a bit of a worry when the first post is No!

+1 for the holding the + paddle for about 3 secs it goes bak to auto mode! Very handy I think

if you have overidden in auto and want auto back, just hold the right paddle for a second...

revs rise in manual, it takes off the same as it would in sport.

Again, revs higher in manual and sport...perfectly normal.

Also, as mentioned, hold any paddle when in D to return to D mode.

Mine goes to 1100rpm in D or S too.
