He doesn't like you.

Yikes! That is for sure. As people have stated above just look at the videos on YouTube showing you the dangers in doing this. (Or just look at the second video in the first post of this thread: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/182447-the-winter-tyres-thread/)

Maybe show it to him as well?! He is preaching this rubbish to everyone he sells tyres too!!!!!!!!!! Unbelievable.

the tyre guy said just put on front!

We will see how it goes before I buy 2 for the back.

I think it will be too late by the time you find out.

Phew.  Good.

Mine go on Friday 225 40 R18 FL vRs

£90 each, interestingly the tyre guy said just put on front!

What are you getting in winter spec, in that size, for that price a corner?! emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

And the other issue, well - I think that's been pretty well covered already.

I'd be interested to know what and where too- I bought 17inch Kumhos for my BMW last year before all the snow and before lots of people started clamouring for winter tyres and that's how much they cost me back then.

If they are a decent make then you've got a bargain

Ok daft question maybe...but if I changed all four tyres for winter rubber, how long do I leave them on ? Until it significantly warms up.. ? No more sign of the horrible white stuff...?

Thats why I ain't putting mine on for a few weks. 17 C this afternoon. Crazy, but nice

I have two sets here waiting for the weather to turn.

(I would rather fit them in the nice weather rather than freeze my nut's off doing it in the cold, but that rather defeats to point of them then :giggle: )

Dunno till tommorow. I just asked for a mid range winter tyre as I didn't want to spend too much.

I'll post the make tommorow when they've been fitted.

I fitted mine when it looked like taking a dip for the cold, but luckily I'm not doing many miles on them at the moment.

Now fitted. They are Fullrun win88.

£90 a corner for 225 40R18

Personally I bought better winter tyres than I will replacement summer tyres figuring their potential to do well is far greater.

I see the Nokian WRG2 XL is now £132/corner. Damn pleased I bought them when they were £90/corner.

Here are mine:

Audi A4 wheels (16") with Goodyear Vectors. 4 for £300 from ebay. Part-worn tyres should get me through this winter and then some shiny new ones for next year!

have no pics in daylight yet sadly..

Looks great with the dark coloured grill surround to go with the wheels.

Got mine fitted last weekend and fitted them this weekend as I really did not want to be fitting them in the very cold weather.

Just a quick question what sort of pressure are people running?

Sorry for the bad picture but it gives the idea.

Here is my winter solution for my Scout - Yeti Spitzberg 17" alloys (secondhand) with Dunlop WinterSport 4D in 225/50R17 - fitted by Allams of Epsom. Didn't get time to clean the car...

I think they look the part. The Spitzberg are offset ET45 rather than 50 for the standard Proteus wheels, but otherwise an identical fitting.

Edited by London Les

Les,

That looks the nuts!

Just use them all year as a Proteus replacement once the delamination comes your way!!

Niall

Oh yes - I hadn't thought of that! Hopefully, keeping them off in winter will extend their life a bit...!

Put the winter wheels and tyres on the Octavia today. The wheels are 7Jx16 ET35 from an Audi A6 fitted with 205/55/16 winter tyres

We'll do the Fabia in a week or two or whenever the temperatures have dropped enough.

Comments welcome :)

Low offset means the wheels sit nicely in the arches. Not my favourite style of wheel but they'll be quality items and do the job nicely :) I'm going to wait as long as I can before putting mine on because as much as I want to try them out I know come February I'll be desperate to get the 18s back on.

Btw Julie is yours the octy or the red fabia vrs?

Mine is the Fabia, the Octavia is my husbands. He got those wheels last winter for his Audi A6 and kept them for the Octavia when he changed cars this year. He double checked on www.willtheyfit.com that they should fit, but wanted to get them on the car to be 100% sure! I'm* going to put mine on once the temperatures have consistently dropped to below 7 degrees - I do 60 miles a day so don't want to put them on too early.

*When I say 'I'm going to put mine on' I actually mean I will instruct my husband to do it...... :giggle::giggle::giggle:
