Tim's vRS - The detail starts

Featured Replies

l Finally got myself a Fabia vRS, and the wait really paid off!

Couldn't have asked for better. Black, 68k, factory xenons, two tone leather, factory sat nav and maxi-dot display!

The car is in mazing nick, the leather looks and feels brand new, and the paintwork will be stunning after I've gone at it with the DA polisher.

I was unsure about the leather in the advert, I was actually planning on selling it and keeping my Polo GTi seats. But it's stunning in person, the black leather door cards are a nice touch also. So the Polo seats will be for sale!

The dash is great, it carries data from the head unit. Including sat nav directions, music info (radio channel etc..), the usual trip computer, and a car status section. I assume the latter is for informing me of faults etc? It's current state is 'OK'

IMG_1704.jpgThe sat nav/radio is awesome. 6 disc changer also under passenger seat. Hardly any vRS's with this I believe!

I need to order some dash blanks. The previous owner had fitted a parrot bluetooth kit, and the controller wasn't fitted to my liking. So I had the dash out within minutes of being home, and relocated it here:

It runs through the speakers along with the sat nav info. Does anybody else have this factory head unit? I'd love some info on iPod, amp and sub connectivities.

It seems to have all the post facelift goodies; lights, over shoulder 3rd rear seatbelt, lazy boy indicators, different top dash, black engine logo. But it still has the battery cover, which I love as I was planning on getting one from a pre-facelift.

This is very much going to be a work in progress. I have a lot of small plans for it.

Next on the list is bulbs all round, grill plate surround and handles colour coded, some coil overs, and proper clean!

Does anyone know the size of bulbs needed for main and full on factory xenons? It looks like D2S and H7. Never seen H7 used as full before though?

nice find the maxidot and sat nav were something like an £1800 option or something silly. as for the zenons there d2s and yep the main beam are separate h7s, i recommend 6k's for the zenons they look really good in mine, and not too blue but a nice hint of blue white.

Wow didn't realise it was that much of additional, got myself a steal then!

Yeh I'll be going 6000k for sure, had them in my old Polo. I have a set of H7 HIDs which I'll use for full beams also.

Forgot to mention.. I've fitted my PD160 intake from my Polo, and have an LCR splitter waiting to go on too! B)

YOu can hook up an Ipod to the headunit via aftermarket gubbins which replace the CD changer

VW sell an aftermarket ipod lead for mk4 Golf chassis, costs around £100

Alternatively you can get other brands that do the same thing, brands such as 'Connects2 or Dension Icelink Plus'

I've been using a Dension Icelink Plus since 2004/5, and it works just fine. Charges the ipod, and also you control the tracks and playlists using the headunit rather than touching the ipod.

I'm selling my Dension cable now, but it's only for a Gen1 Ipod Mini, so might not be any use to you?

With regards to hooking up Amps, it can be done, you need an adaptor made by Autoleads which makes it all plug and play.

But to be very honest, in my R32 (I have the same headunit) all I did was upgrade the front speakers to some Focal ones, and dynamatted the doors, and the sound was really very impressive. Didn't really need anything else, unless you really wanted a thumping SUB... The sound improvement was truely eye opening.

So all leads you're referring to (connects2, Dension icelink plus) are from the same disc changer lead also? I love that it uses the head unit to display functions. I had this on my old alpine, but on the larger screen would be great.

I have an iPhone 4, so I doubt will work unfortunately.

I won't be looking for stinking sound, but I'd prefer two amp outs, one for speakers one for sub. With your knowledge, do you know if it can be done? Also, do you know what type autoleads adaptor I need?

Many thanks for the info.

Lovely Fabia! How much did you pick her up for! Brilliant spec. The blank buttons I'd be looking out for a seller breaking a Fabia and pick them up cheaply

Very nice, looks like the first owner wasn't afraid of the options list!

These Ipod leads plug directly into the back of the headunit, into the CD changer's mini ISO. This means you will completely loose the use of the CD changer..

YOu won't get track names on the headunit or dash, but you will get CD1,2,3,4,5 (indicating the playlists 1-5 on your ipod), and you also get track number and track play time.

With regards to Iphone4, You'll need to research the Connects2 or Dension website for full compatability.

Another brand is X-carlink I believe.

With regards to the Autoleads part number, sorry I do not know it, I'm sure it isn't too hard to find on their website. Just search for VW Gamma headunit (As that is much more common h/u, and has the same connections as the satnav)

Wow, very nice spec. The ONLY other fabia i`v seen with factory satnav was my mates, he was the first of all of my "group" to get a fabia, had pretty much every option, but at the time none of us knew how rare it was, he got the headunit taken out before he even picked it up! :'(

Enjoy, looks a lovely car!

Looks like a top find mate,

What plans, if any have you got for her??

Excellently specced Fabia B)

Are you ESP'd up as well?

Wish mine had Xenons, leather and maxidot.

Lucky S0d :p

edit- Just saw your dash pic again.

And I'm actually wearing my glasses so no excuse there either.

The dash blanks are about a pound each from the main dealer btw

Thanks guys, I got lucky for sure. It was the last day of me holding out for a well specced one before choosing a local standard one!

Plans - I'm going for OEM+ styling, I've got some VAG wheels on mind that Ive never seen on a fabia which I'm confident will look awesome! Coilovers, LCR, remap, colour coding, plus the full corrective detail with the paint. Should be a right gem in a few months! B)

GTi fly - thanks or the further info mate, appreciate it! I'll check it out.

Nice car - copule of points:

Couldn't have asked for better. Black, 68k, factory xenons, factory two tone leather, factory sat nav with integrated digital dash display!

That's not factory leather. There was never a factory leather option. The leather upgrade was added as a dealer option sometime in 2005 but it's always been just black. The only cars sold with leather from new are the SEs and even they're not "factory leather" - they were retro-converted in the UK.

It seems to have all the post facelift goodies; lights, over shoulder 3rd rear seatbelt, lazy boy indicators, different top dash, black engine logo. But it still has the battery cover, which I love as I was planning on getting one from a pre-facelift.

I think the "lazy boy indicators" as you put it might be pre-facelift.

The battery cover change was a long time post-facelift - possibly at BLT engine introduction which would be logical. Not sure about the black engine logo - but I'd thought that might be the same time too - my 2004 facelift car had the original one.

What a great find! The maxidot IMO makes the dash look so much nicer.

I think the only option you're missing by the look of it is ESP.

I think the only option you're missing by the look of it is ESP.

Side airbags and sunroof were a couple of other costly options.

Sunroof was another rare one.

You seem to have

Airbag off

Maxidot and sat nav

Xenons

Seats look a seat surgeons retrim

Missing options are heated seats, esp, cruise control?

Still nice spec 99% of fabias are boggo standard

I bought my vRS from new with added factory options of: Gas discharge headlamps (xenons), six cd changer under the passenger seat and cruise control.

Like most cars available with options i.e. pretty much all of them(!), a second hand buyer can find a well spec'd car where the first owner took the hit in the wallet for them.

I'll be sorry to see mine go but it's time to embrace a twin-charged engine, maxi-dot display and access to a large portion of my music collection in the car rather than just a slice of it (MDI)!

Yeh it doesn't have ESP, has ASR.

Interesting info regarding seats not being factory, maybe that explains how new they look! Either way its a steal.

Bulbs and LCR splitter going in next week.

Wanna sell your headlights? I'll give you £400 and mine as replacement

awesome find with all those options, im jealous of the maxidot lol

Sorry mate, but xenons was second to top of my buying list next to Black paint!

There's a set selling separately on eBay now for around £274 a unit, you could probably haggle. That was my contingency if I couldn't find one with them already fitted.

At least you're unlikely to get people trying to buy your paint off you!

Factory fit lights must be much better than aftermarket considering the hassle of fitting them...
