Shark STS, OEM Clutch, Conti Tyre, Coil Pack - Mk2 Octy VRS

Tim your car will be sooooo slow with stock map on. I reverted back to stock once to see the difference, I think it lasted about a whole day lol.

Shame to see the car going but we all need to move on. Not sure why but It seems as soon as people get to stage 3 they sell up

Probably because they can't afford a K04! :p

Yeah I know - I did it back in March for a couple of days when trying to get the emissions sorted out, and it just felt like the car was broken or something.

Funny how times change - I remember when I first read about the MkV GTI which was due to have near enough 200bhp and couldn't believe such a mainstream car was going to be so powerful. Now it feels like driving a Fiesta emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Having said that, pootling around on my Bandit for the summer makes anything seem slow really.

Not quite sure what that means mate, are you saying it's sold?

If not, and this is a long shot, I am ready to go to stage 2 with the vRS having acquired a Milltek down pipe, if you haven't reset your STS is it viable that I could buy it and upload your stage 2 software onto my car? Or is this a no, no. Mine currently has the Evoms also.......

Yes it's available, but no that won't work I'm afraid - the maps are ECU specific so one produced for my car won't work for yours, you'll need to fork out for your own map from Ben then stick it on the STS.

:'( Time to write my Christmas list......!

Regarding the exhaust - if you don't fancy the idea of a de-cat, then you can simply bolt in the CAT section and leave it at that - giving you a full turbo back exhaust system at half the price of a new one.

Any takers?

I have 3 vaguely interested people in the car as a whole - if I get no joy by Monday evening then the exhaust will be reduced.

This also fits the estate - Full turbo back Milltek will set you back £1200......

Timmy join the mk5 gti forum, you'll have interest on there for the downpipe

I'm already on there mate, but I assumed the exhaust would be a no-no.

Are you saying the downpipe is the same fitment for the GTI? What about the rest of the system?

Long time no speak btw :)

What about the rest of the system?

I guess that was a silly question given the length of my boot :)

Exhaust dropped to £425.

I should be picking up my new VRS (2007) this weekend. If I do then I will be interested in the exhaust and live in Christchurch, nr Bournemouth so Pompy is no problem for me. I will let you know when the deal is definite with the garage.

This has been the bane of my modding existance. Personally I would contact Pipewerx to confirm, but if you look at their eBay shop the vRS and GTi are different, the latter being in 2 pieces? Honestly I can't see any reason why the dp shouldn't be compatible with all mk5 platform cars running the TFSi engine, beyond the cat fair enough as the Octavia is longer.

EDIT: Just found this on the ebay - GTi - vRS. The only difference besides the pipe being in 2 parts could be the mounting brackets. I have also looked at the Milltek and the vRS pipe seems unique fitting only that, whereas the GTi will fit the Cupra, S3 etc.....

It was my (basic) understanding on the TFSI that the DP was different on the vRS, due to the mounting points.

Sounds good mate, let me know - it's an amazing exhaust set up.

Something to think about - depending on how much you're planning to modify your VRS it might cost you far less in the long term just to buy my car, especially considering the clutch and S3 intercooler etc.

I am trading a car in so cant buy yours!

Will the exhaust be ok on a standard car? I presume with the cat fitted until it is remapped out? I will eventually do further mods and have it remapped.

Well, I'm only stripping the parts off mine to get it in a fit state to trade in anyway, so PM me what you've got - obviously you wouldn't get the warranty you would do with a garage but might be worth considering.

Exhaust wise, yes it will be fine on a standard car - I think it's safe to say you'd see a marginal increase in power, however you will more than likely get a warning light on the dash as the readings will be all over the place, CAT or no CAT.

Get a remap on it and the difference will be shocking - If you're going for smiles per pound I'd stick my exhaust on, a CAI and a Shark stage 2 - you won't be disappointed :)

If you do get a cel you can get an o2 sensor spacer which usually gets rid of the cel.

hey Timmy,

apologies, not interested in the exhaust i'm afraid, but can I have second dibs on both the Bluetooth and the RNS Columbus on the (very very) slim chance Matt decides he doesn't want them? :)

cheers

Yes that's an option, though in my experience if you've forked out for a stage 2 map then the tuner will more than likely also give you a de-cat version for free if that pesky light comes on. Had this from Superchips and Sharky anyway.

Agreed.

I was meaning he could run the spacer with standard map if he wasn't ready to upgrade his map or even get the tuner to map out the cel at any stage.

Sorry for the hijack Tim (free bump though) can you tell me more about the spacer? If there is a cheap fix for the interim period I will get my milly on, its doing my head in sitting gathering dust in the garage!! :wall:

I've never tried one but apparently the ones with the bend in work very well. They move the sensor out of the faster flowing gasses to make the ECU think a standard cat is in place.

I forgot to ask what size bore is the exhaust? And is it the same all the way through?

Thanks Mart for the tip - it's quite common with the GTI chaps.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the Pipewerx downpipe is 3", the swappable and cat sections are bolted mid-way through this so are also 3", the piper cat back is 2.5".
