Top mounts for Felicia.

Featured Replies

If i'm correct it's difficult to find any camber products for the Felicia outside of Czech republic, well if your prepared to pay a few bob there is this!?

http://www.compbrake.co.uk/Parts-by-Car-Manufacturer/Skoda/Felicia/SKODA-FELICIA-FAV-FIX/prod_531.html?review=write

now i don't know what i'm looking at here but i'm hoping someone like Tom, djaychela or Felcica16v will confirm to me that this will stop my now lowered car being so understeerie in the wet?!

cos since my car was lowered it's clear that the camber has been affected enough to reduce the grip, only really noticeable in the wet but seeing as winter is coming i need to get it sorted!?

will this do the job guys?

oh and if anyone else is interested we could do a group buy because i imagine they make these to order so even 2 or 3 might save us £10-20 each

Not sure how much camber adjustment they will offer - certainly on my top mounts on the rally car (which are a similar design, except they are of course 2-bolt instead of the triangular 3-bolt design in the pic there) there's no adjustment at all, and even if it had the scope for some it would be very little without making modifications to the strut top area or changing the way the mount attaches to the body. I don't know how much camber you have on there, but I'd have thought an adjustable strut bottom would be more like it (like Tom is making use of by changing to the Polo type hubs), but in their absence I guess you'd want to try and get as much out of the top mount as possible, probably best to ask them what they can offer, or get some accurate dimensions so you can see how much you'd get?

(The main reason I have them is because they are strong and don't move about unlike the standard mounts which move and break, plus on the Proflex the top mounts need to be bigger as the top of the strut is much larger)

There is not much scope for changing camber at the top really as the spring will rub on the inner wing.

How low have you gone as it could be that the extra understeer is from it going solid on the stops too.

I used the plain undrilled version http://www.compbrake.co.uk/Suspension-Acc-39-s/Top-Mounts/Plain-Fixed-Top-Mount-Reversed-Pair/prod_950.html and drilled it to suit but mine went on top with a spacer as I wanted to keep as much suspension movement as possible http://s265.photobucket.com/albums/ii223/felicia16v/technical%20pics/?action=view&current=S1030390.jpg (the 2.25 inch spring just fits up thru the skoda inner wing nicely)

I think if you are using the std size springs there is not going to be any benefit from the topmounts due to the lack of clearance and they are thicker than the std ones so even less suspension travel available too.

Thank for the replies.

So basically what your both saying it that won't help!?

my car is lowered 35-40mm on the front and 30mm on the back.

The car actually has less grip in the wet than it did before the car was lowered.

So whats the easiest solution. i don't mind throwing a little bit of money at it but i don't really any tools or facilities to change hubs myself.

do i need to take my car to get the camber measured or can we make an assumption that it is out by a predetermined amount!?

i hope you can provide me with some solutions because this car will not be safe in the snow and ice the way it is at the moment.

thanks

camber will be non existant!!! as soon as the wishbone passes thru horizontal the camber gets less and less the higher up it goes. Did you cut the springs or use a lowering kit? maybe cutting the bumpstop down a bit too would help a bit so there is some travel before going solid and get the tracking checked again as that will be out now and won't be helping.

You'll need to get it measured, without knowing then you don't know what's going on, but Jim is right (as ever!).

Solution? Put the car back to standard height! :p

okay so if i get it measured then that company i posted a link to should be able to fabricate something for me with the measurements i give them?

they might be able to but I don't think you will gain much at all due to the limitations of space around the strut, give em a bell tho they may be able to do something.

other option is something like a fiesta ball joint and re drilling the wishbone to suit (it fits in the hub the same but is longer so would give some camber

It needs to go the other way jimbo, the ball joint need to go closer in.

I've got daft negative camber on my pickup too, and it not even that low, just about 40mm on proper lowering springs. I measured the camber on mine with my gauge and it's -5

no those won't fit, the reason TeflonTom is fitting Polo/caddy suspension is because he has changed his hubs overs
