Warning: Fabia Door Leaks

Featured Replies

I have that problem on the n/s/r and in the boot could not work it out until reading this. Would this affect water getting in the boot?

I have no leak in the boot, but that could come from rear washer pipe connection if it has worked loose(due to the cold weather..(use 90% windscreen wash %10 water).Does the back jet wash delay when you call for the wash to spray.......The leak you have on the door(n/s/r),is it pooling on the rubber seal when you open the door(this will be directly under the door card when the door is closed)if it is then yes the door needs sealing and this should not affect the boot from pooling...:rofl:

  • Got mine fixed...well, I've found the problem. Had a wet floor in front drivers side and after sealing all doors (one of them 2-3 times) I've found the problem.   Here's how: Ripped out in

For newcomers reading this list, please note that the problem potentially affects ALL Mark 1 Fabias. My 2004vRS was hardly affected, my 2007vRS much worse!

I still can't understand why Skoda are still ignoring this major problem with the mark one fabia's........its a big scam!!!!!!!... :( :(

too much of a problem on too many mk1's for them to accept it id guess....would have cost a fortune in recalls, also being a obsolete model now id imagine there not even bothered anymore as the mk2's would take pride of place!

Denzo Tape is GooooooooooooooooIE thats what makes ideal for this job

Hello peeps,

Managed to fix one of the rear doors last year thanks to all the threads on this forum :)

Lots more condensation this winter but the rear doors seem fine. However, I have noticed that there's often standing water on the metal sill under the driver's door, but on the 'outside' side of the door seal. The carpet doesn't appear to be wet either.

Is this likely to be due to the front carrier seal going? And if so, what do I need to do differently to get the front door card (electric windows) off as opposed to the rear door?

Cheers :)

I have done my rear passenger door as the footwell was soaking. I have noticed the footwell is still wet and that's after it was dried after the door seal repaired. Is there a rear washer pipe connection down there somewhere?? Ian

Unless you've taken the front underfelt out to dry it you won't have dried it out properly. Water in the rear section travels through to the front and gets trapped there because, unlike the rear, the underfelt has a plastic capping meaning the moisture is trapped. Though mine was superficially dry the weight of the front underfelt when taken out showed it must have litres of water stuck in it.

Right then,We had a look at my o/s/r door which was leaking very slightly at the weekend, only to find [unsurprisingly] that someone had beat me to it, and in the process had added 5 self self tappers to the lower section of my riveted on metal plate, aswell as clear sealant around the edge, cleaned the old clear silicone stuff off, aswell as the now soaking wet and rotting oe sponge gasket, before removing the afore mentioned self tappers, drying everything up as much as possible with a 30 year old hair dryer for 2 hrs :giggle: and resealing around the edges with a much better sealant [the name escapes me now] aswell as in and around the extra self tapper holes, before re-tightning them into place, and finally after leaving to dry for 30mins or so we used denso tape to cover both the self tapper holes and around the edges covering the new sealant in what i hope to act as a kind of second seal, only time will tell! but fingers crossed,

Mark

Exactly the same problem as I found - extra self tappers and water leaking through them since they weren't sealed - must be an "approved" Skoda repair !!! :o

ha ha yes sound's about right !! :D

Just had mine done (54 plate VRS) at the dealership after the guy on the phone said that skoda will pay some of the cost. Theyve just rang me to pick up the car and said Skoda will not contribute and its &198.99! Plus £60 to take the bulb warning light off (i never asked them to do!) im not happy, as i was led to believe i would atleast only pay 50% of the bill!!!

Never believe a word they say, unless the cars under the original warranty theyre not interested, simply because they dont have to be im afraid , in there eyes its an old model and all there bothered about are new car sales

They can't go back on their word though. Deserves a name and shame to make sure their car sales are hit, and a complaint to the manager and Skoda HQ IMO.

I'm fed up with this car!

Having found standing water in the rear O/S footwell in October I resealed that door (following a botched previous repair by others unknown) and dried that area out but the water seemed to have spread to the front O/S footwell. In January I took the seat out and cut the underfelt out to dry it all out. All was well for several weeks. Now I find the front O/S footwell is feeling very damp, generally towards the centre of the car, and the rear N/S footwell is feeling slightly damp - but at least the other two are dry. However all the door seals remain perfectly dry and the upstands of the carpets up the sills are also dry - so where is the water coming from? It can't be the pollen filter because the N/S footwell is dry, and I can't see any water intrusion anywhere else. Perhaps the water's actually getting in through the floor somewhere?

I'm now going to have to take the drivers seat out again and remove the underfelt to dry it out.

Ahh I think thats an old type of repair and now out of date ;)

Yes your are right, I do have the new information kindly provided by a anonymous contributer. I will endevour to sort out the newer method soon.

im going to need to do this soon, which is the latest procedure as i have found a few. I have a fabia le. thanks

I've started a new topic having discovered another source of water ingress leading to damp carpets - one which is not connected with the faulty door carrier construction afflicting Mark 1 Fabias - please check it out here: Damp carpets - a new source of the problem - Leakage around door seal

See my new topic for the front one - the rear one turns out to be the usual leakage through the door carrier problem having newly arisen on the rear N/S door. I suspect when I take the door card off - which is going to have to wait until next weekend now - I'll find the same botched repair I found on the O/S door...

I first had a problem with one of the first Felicia estates, water getting in through a rear light.

I now have problems with water in the rear footwells of my 06 Fabia VRS, having owned several Skoda's from new and normally part-exchanging them every 2 years or so, have never encountered this problem since, until now.

Glad I looked on here, can go to dealers and try to get the problem sorted - knew I should have part-exed it before, but I don't like the new shape.

Hi guys I'm new here, just got myself a Fabia VRS (2004) and I'm finding the same problem. My mechanic reckons replacing the door seal is pointless, in 6 months time you're just going to have exactly the same problem.

A few references on other sites say it's worth complaining to Skoda and see if they sort it out, apparently theirs some new sealant they can use to sort it. Some other sites say this video here is the way to sort it:

Personally I was just going to put some rubber or something underneath the carpets in the back so it doesn't rot out the whole floor of my car.

Other than that I'm not sure how to proceed.

ive had this was quite a simple job just remove doorcards and use a strong black bond and run it all round the bottom of the door where the card meets 2af0uq1.jpg

HI

When did my doors, I put a dehumidifier in the car over the weekend, and that dried it out !

Radiotwo

Ive been putting it off for ages now but I need to do it as waking up to go to work as normal, and then realising that youve got thick Ice on the inside of your car windows isnt good. Im glad its this simple, I will try and get it done this weekend, and tbh I need to have a look at the rear door locks anyway.
