Warning: Fabia Door Leaks

Featured Replies

I would think that strict cut-off dates apply to the application of the warranty. If a failure occurs within the warranty period then SKODA UK would meet the costs of making good to the industry standard, providing the customer was not responsible to some degree and providing the earlier repair was undertaken by a SKODA authorised repairer and providing that the vehicle was warrantied in the first place - grey imports and some internet purchases might not be. This would be in-line with your statutory rights under the Sale of Goods and services Act.

Otherwise, their involvement will be discretionary i.e Goodwill.

Warranties are minor conditions of contract, which are difficult to legally enforce and which, in the case of Authorised motor dealers, are in all likelihood not imported into the conditions of the sale of your car but are referenced through the motot dealers agency agreement with the distributor/manufacturer.

Although dealer's often refer to "No-charge" extension of the main SKODA warranty for specific items (I've had experience of this), I can't see any motor manufacturer granting exceptional extensions to individual customers - it would be an administrative nightmare. So unless you have a piece of paper from SKODA UK stating specifically that you have an extension of warranty for this particular item and, i guess you don't, then you'll have to rely on the dealer's own warranty on the work undertaken - and this can vary. Three to six months is usual.

You'll probably need to see a copy of the repairer's T & C's for repair jobs and if your repair is warrantied, determine the term of the warranty. It may well have expired !

So it might be prudent to do a bit of research before engaging with the dealer

The SKODA website lists dealers and indicates which ones currently are authorised to provide service, repair, resale etc.

Bear in mind that warranties generally don't provide the customer with anything more than their already established statutory rights and the companies that give them won't grant any benefit under them greater than the sum of the benefit due to the customer afforded by the exercise of their legal rights plus the assessed cost of the detriment to the business and reputation of the company occuring asa consequence of their refusal to honour them

  • Four suggested threads have now been added to The Extremely Useful Fabia 1 thread.   Hopefully there's no reference to insulation tape made in them - or any more in this thread either! :peek:

  • Got mine fixed...well, I've found the problem. Had a wet floor in front drivers side and after sealing all doors (one of them 2-3 times) I've found the problem.   Here's how: Ripped out in

i bodged mine with window mastic, works like a charm

after reading this thread i've noticed mine does it too, arrrrgh! on both rear sides!!!

i'm going into the garge to sort it now.

a thread well timed i say, cheers

What with all this rain the past day or so, no doubt there'll be plenty of Fabias turning into swimming pools all over the country.

Hi people, have not been on the site for a while. After all this cr*p weather we have had I noticed that the back of my 2002 fabia rear footwells were also soaked. I have not read through all the posts but seen a few and realised that this seems to be a common problem! Does anyone actually know how to attempt to do a self repair without having to take it in a garage? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Rob

Just sold my 04 VRS for a new Mk 2 Fabia. Mine leaked too - nearside rear. Carpets sodden. Dealer replaced seals and something in the door. Dried out no problem. Sorry to let it go. New 1.4 80 HP not as economical!

Not too happy today to find that my 2007 Fabia vRS - with a build date of January 2007 - is leaking water through the nearside rear door carrier and the carpet that side is sodden. Given that James started this thread as long ago as July 2003, I would have hoped that Skoda would have sorted this problem out ages ago on the production line.

Mine seems to leak a bit in extreme conditions. So far though, nothing but a small amount of water on the plastic sill trims. I keep feeling under the rear mats but it's dry.

Unless mine suddenly becomes a swamp, it's staying as it is.

J.

I'm amazed that so many Fabia's have this problem.

I am on the verge of getting a Fabia VRS and was very excited. After reading all of this the thought of this problem, which costs £300 to fix, ruins your 'nice car' feeling, then may fail again has put me right off. Such a shame.

I have a 2002 Seat Toledo TDI and this is also a very common fault. Luckily it hasn't happened to me yet. One of the reasons for getting a different car was to avoid crappy problems like this.

Gutted.

After the carpet drying out I have noticed it is a bit damp again, so the newspaper is back out.

I intend using a dehumidifier to dry my car out after I have taken it to the dealer tomorrow to book a repair under warranty.

Aye thats what I need, but just need the time to do that.

Davy

TBH, although its an annoying problem, its very very easy to do yourself and shouldnt cost more than £10 and a couple of hours of your time

Well a possible sucsess!approx 10 days ago took the NSR door apart, unbolted the carrier and used some calking (from a mate who does upvc windows) and left to "dry" had a REALLY bad couple of days of rain and the door and carpet are still dry! Got to do OSR,OSF AND NSF now, only problem now got is that the interior light switch has gone so have to replace whole door lock! So will seal that door when Ive finished stripping it!

Just proves that you dont have to pay garage prices to sort some problems!

If its got a continuous FSH from new with Skoda dealerships then you would stand a better chance obatining a "Goodwill" contribution from SKODA Uk, if it has got a water pentration problem.

Just took my 05 plate back to dealer 1 month out of warranty skoda are going to pay 80% of the repair bill i'm happy with that result

thanks guys &girls 4 all the info.especially VR STU,4 that helpfull link.will do all my doors w/end using a clear silicone sealent.still getting water through the front w/screen?or bonnet area?:any ideas: thanks everybody

Seems my 06 plate Fabia vRS had leaking rear doors as well... just glad it happened after I sold it :D

  • 3 weeks later...

My wife's 2002 Fabia seems to leak, too. She's keen on car wash machines and today, when vacuuming interior after winter season I found the back floor rubber carpets being wet on the underside.

Now I've put newspapers between the mats and padding material. Couldn't really see the cause of the leak and can't understand which is the door´' leaking point.

The only picture I saw on this forum had a dead link.

Please explain better what to seal??

BTW my friends Fabia Wagon one year old leaked too. He was terrified and asked me if our shopping trolley was leaking also.

The dealer fixed their car but DID NOT TELL what was leaking.

  • 8 months later...

My mum has a 04 model, one of the rear doors has been leaking and as a result interior stinks, due to the wet carpet!

Just phoned around the nearby Skoda dealers, a few denied knowing anything about the problem, whereas one of them immediately knew what i was talking about and straight away started to tell me how to fix it...remove the door panel and with windscreen sealer seal 1/4 of the way up both sides of the door and along the bottom. He told me you needed a special tool however to remove the panel without breaking the clips.

Quoted me a price of €65 to have it fixed by them...basically an hours labour.

Good to hear it's a common problem and not just our car!

personally id do it yourself, as even a well done job can start to leak again after a few weeks, sometimes it takes a few attempts

Yep - had my 04 one back in ,just before warranty went out - no probs --bloke I spoke to said they had two cures - if cards screwed in -replace seals

If cards rivited - apply sealer .

Hello,

Initial post placed 2009, and deleted info accordingly.

It is clear the door, door seals and panels are not at fault.

May 2013 update.

All very clear now, as carried out this re-sealing operation myself.

Lower edge of inner metal door card had bevelled outwards, so after cleaning and re-sealing, drilled and placed pop-rivets to draw the card close to door frame.

Then, after smoothing sealer edge, I ran some gaffa tape (duct tape) over he top of re-sealed edges.

when you pull the door card off, you will see a large metal plate inside the door, behind which is the window gubbins, basically you need to seal the edge of that plate at the bottom

as seen below - see the full guide on this website -> Fabia-vrs.com - Re-sealing Fabia Rear Ancillaries Carriers

had my 04 vRS a couple of weeks now and so far my carpet are dry...

the car was formally owned by a briskodian so he/she may have sealed them up. i haven't looked.

however, i managed to get an unlimited 12mth warranty from the dealer. it specifically says in items not covered water ingress. does this mean that skoda are sealing doors as a goodwill gesture?

best car i've owned bar none...
