More towbar

The Yeti accessories catalogue gives 2 different part numbers for single electric harnesses EEA 800 002 EL and EEA 630 002 E4 does anyone know which is the correct one for a Yeti with factory preparation for single electrics

EEA 630 002E4

See My link. If you use the code: christmas10, you'll get 10% off.

Yikes! £196 :S , 10% off is still a lump of money! :'(

slightly off topic, I was informed by the dealer supplying my Yeti that if you select Factory prep, the canbus coding is done in the factory and all that is required by the dealer is to put a tick in the box once the towbar is installed.

Not sure whether to believe them. :S I have had a discussion about this so they are very clear that i know what I expect from them. If they don't do it they know that I will take it up with SUK and get the local dealer to sort and charge the suppling dealer.

This is simply not true, the control box that has to be coded comes with the SEEA630002EA wiring loom that connects to the factory tow bar prep wiring, it therefore can not be coded at the factory.

I did wonder if the dealer knew what he was talking about! :wonder:

"I did wonder if the dealer knew what he was talking about!"

Normal for most Skoda dealers IME!

Very helpful advice --thank you--and I'm now the future owner of a Yeti not a yeyi[ lousy typing]

I emailed the company with my requirements and the reply, thankfully honest, does not inspire confidence----

quote "We do not purchase wiring kits from the dealers the ones we have are full dedicated wiring kit for towbar. We have had many Skoda vehicles in for towbars which are supposed to be prepared for towing and have never yet found any wiring at all in the vehicle.

If you want to buy the wiring kit from the dealer we could fit that one and hopefully our coding machine would still code their kit but until we tried would not know for definate. ( not sure what the cost of their kit is)"

So it seems like my £170 towbar prep was somewhat wasted in regard to the wiring loom installed to the rear of the vehicle

I think now the best way forward is to buy the kit for 9 pin electrics[ which is all the factory prep gives you--if you need 13 pin it's a whole different ball game] It looks like from other forums that towbar companies would find it difficult, nay impossible, to recode the car

I am therefore going down the diy route and then getting a local Skoda dealer to recode the canbus

The only worry I have is the argument from a dealer when they they blame me for some sort of incompetence, when they have any problems recoding.

All the evidence, on here, is there is a lot of incompetence at dealerships re adjusting the ecu settings -- you would think they would have done a lot of these by now--I see plenty of caravans and trailers on the road!

I hope someone from Skoda UK is reading this because this whole Yeti tow bar fitting/coding saga is a disgrace and needs urgently sorting!

As far as I understand it, the factory tow bar prep does include an additional loom to simplify fitting, a pre-cut and fitted lower bumper cover and possibly an uprated fan? Anything which reduces the disturbance of trim in the car is to be applauded IMO.

C'mon Skoda sort this fiasco out once and for all!

You will still have to wire this into a 13 pin socket, (or 2x 7) If you follow the link in Lowens post below you will see how he fitted the extra bit that is needed to make the whole thing work. If you want to tow/charge a caravan (& run the fridge) you may have to add another bit that does connect into the fuse box and will entail removing some trim etc. BUT...

I had the 'dedicated wiring kit' that the towbar people refered to, it did involve removing trim but it's all back in place with no damage (in fact it's very easy to remove if you know where to start) mine all works perfectly.

One point that is in your favour, I have a 170 cdi which has two fans on the cooling side, (I think the 110 only has one fan)I understand that the tow bar wiring prep does include the extra fan which could be needed if you tow a caravan in hot weather.

Dig around on this forum, there are plenty of people who have fitted their own tow bar (C F Jones in Manchester are about the cheapest suppliers) and anybody with a VAGCOM who knows how to use it shoul be able to code-it.

Why cant you just have 9 pin on its own-- surely--I don't caravan so I don't need the 13 pin. To reiterate the vehicle brochure clearly states that the factory prep gives you only to quote" Provides a single electrics solution.Unsuitable for split charging. (SeeRetailer Accessories for fully functional

electrics kits solution"

---if you can believe it--it's probably as accurate as the accessory catalogue which gives two different part numbers on the same page for the same thing, apparently--I have emailed Skoda UK and await some clarification. What happened to German/Slavic efficiency?

Because the European (and probably worldwide) standard is now for a 13 pin plug, which covers ALL eventualities, and is a far better and safer unit.

As Graham said above. Also think of resale value. The next person buying your car might want to tow a caravan and with an ancient 9pin the deal might just be off...

I will never tow a caravan and have only a trailer. I don't need the 13pin but that is what I have, with a £5 Westfalia 7 to 13pin coverter I that I plug in before I can attach the trailer. Job done.

And to add there never has been a 9 pin. The old ones were 7 pin.

Ah indeed. In my second sentence I state it correctly but in my first sentence I had what was said before in my head! (ie 9 pin! Promise I don't always have nines on the brain!) :giggle:

Yes--where did I get the idea of 9 pins from?

Doh!!

I think you should go and stand in the corner with that funny tall hat with a D on it. :giggle:

This is a joke, by the way;-}

13 Pin for me.

My Thule bike carrier has 13 pin plug and is far superior to the 7pin socket on the trailer, who's connections seam to fail.

I must change the plug to 13 pin so i don't have to use the adapter.

I think this is one of the few things that the Europeans have made better!
