BONG !

Featured Replies

Guess that is the end of the indian summer then, 3.5 degrees this morning and last seasons potholes making a reappearance. Will be time for winter rubber soon.

Aye, Me too! 3.5 degs over the pennines this morning! Time to start justifying winters to my boss!

Frozen windscreen this morning, most depressing :(

2 degrees on the way to work over the hills.. first "bong" of the season for me too.

Front conti's at 2mm, dry cold tarmac, shark 420Nm torque, tc off, second gear at 30mph, full trhottle gives you comedy wheelspin and the car will leave "elevens" wherever you want.

One can afford to have fun with tyres when they are on the way out though I think mine would only leave ones rather than elevens as I have no LSD.

I do envy you the remap. I will have to see if I can get management approval for it this year although skunk works is always a possibility. I saw your car parked up the other day by the way as I sped by on the main road - looked very nice!

Now that is interesting, I was just thinking of wiring in an AC220V heater from my house . . .

First bong for me this morning too,3 in the Wicklow hills

gave me a fright hadnt heard it in a while :giggle:

Or a decent glass sealant will help with removal of ice and snow on the screen, helped me greatly last year.

something like Gtechniq G1, Nanolex Ultra Glass sealant.

Bonging merrily on the journey into W London from a very chilly SW Surrey this morning too - got particularly cold in Richmond Park, only 2.0 deg C - brr.. :o

Here also. Gritters were out last night. Depressing... Winter rubber'll be on by the month's end at this rate.

was struggling to figure out what first 'Bong' meant for a while there... and then the penny dropped!! lol :D

I had the annoying phenomenon of there being water on my windscreen when I got in the car, which I cleared with the wipers, reversed out of the driveway and then couldn't see anything as there was now condensation gathering on the outside of the glass ... which had frozen. Seemed a bit of a weird thing to happen! :S

Ah right ....not that type of Bong then .......

I couldn't find the other sort of bong in Lidls but what I did find was the windscreen washer fluid (-60C) very helpful and thanks to thos who flagged this. I also found a remote control, thermostatted and timed AC220V heater (£19.95) which I intend to set up to heat up my car in the morning. I will need to find a safe way to get the power lead inside the cabin though . . . needs some further thought.

A piece of cardboard trapped under the windscreen wipers is a very worthwhile, 3 minute, thing to do when parking the car for the last time in an evening.

A couple of years ago I got some windscreen wide sheets of very soft plastic sheeting from a pound shop, 1 for mine and 1 for the wifes car. They do a super job but you have to trap the ends in the door which is a bit of a hassle. Having bought the wife a car with a heated windscreen a few months back I'll be able to use a double thickness this year if I use these

If you want a ride out at any time to see how it goes with the shark map just let me know.

What a hooligan you are! :D

Guilty.

This is of course on ever on my private racetrack.. I wouldn't dream of doing this on the public road, officer!

LOL, Funny the first thing that pops into the head when reading the title of a post

Yeah this, job done. Saved me loads of effort last winter.

Surely the cardboard ends up soggy within 1 or 2 uses though?

I am after a quick fix to the dreaded frozen windscreen at 6am...in the dark! :(

That is my pet dislike too as well as the spontaneous fogging up. I will let you know how I get on with my electric heater "mod" then . . .

Got my first bong of the season on the way home this evening at 3.5°C. Bloomin freezing this evening, just checked and outside temp currently sitting at around 0.6°C

The icicle hath appearth here too... this evening. Noticed the long lost symbol appear at 4deg C about half an hour ago. Oh how we've missed you! emoticon-0114-dull.gif

Dropped to 2.5 before pulling up.

As for solutions to an icy windscreen, there's no really any substitute for preparation - as annoying as that might sound! A sheet or an old rubber car mat perhaps the night before, but apart from that and without a proper heated windscreen - its out with the scraper really. I can echo the suggestion of applying a glass coating though, that helps a lot. I use Aquapel.
