Octavia OEM Bluetooth

Hehe. I might start drafting something and getting some info together.

Something like a Google Drive sheet that can be viewed and kept updated might be the way forward

It is confusing, for sure!

Good call!

A Quick question for this spreadsheet. Do the modules that work with pre-FL maxidot also work with FL maxidot? Or is it one or the other?

Phil

Generally both.

There is a PDF from Skoda regarding modules and compatibility on the Internet. Last time I looked (2 years ago) it was out of date. I doubt Skoda have updated it, but would be worth a look.

The pre-FL maxidot uses DDP (Display Data Protocol), the FL maxidot uses BAP (Operating and Display Protocol).

Some modules work with one type, and some work on both.

See here

Problem is while that list is a good start it has a few errors and unknowns....

Remember Mike its a 5N0 not a 5K0....

So to clarify, text message display uses RSAP and you don't have the messages left on the phone unless you move them from the simcard to the phone?

Exactly. Some of the newer units can also read them out and/or display the texts on the Columbus.

I have a 3C8 035 730 that works with my pre fl maxidot

Without the A/B/C/D suffix that is an early 3C8 unit that is very similar to the 5N0 that Mike has.

Irritatingly there are some equivalencies in the first three letter of the part number which add to the confusion.  7P6 and 5K0 are equivalent too but often with these the same unit is still characterised by a different suffix!!! Aaaargh!!!

Many thanks for the pictures! Can't wait to Gert the Columbus now!

I think I have noe found the Bluetooth module I want.

What revision is yours? There are a couple of B ones on eBay. Or does it not matter?

Phil

Cool.

Just won a 5N0 module on eBay for £25.

Just need to get a wiring harness, microphone and antenna now!

Phil

Good stuff. What is the suffix?

Carsystems.pl do the wiring harness, antenna and microphone without a module. You can get a polystyrene cover too for holding it under the seat (which is better than it sounds). Or you can put it behind the climate unit - buy a shorter harness also available from carsystems.pl.

Adam

Thanks for the tip.

Its a B suffix which looks like it will work fine for me.

I know what cover you mean. I may look at installing behind the dash rather than under the seat.

I've found a harness from Germany including the microphone for a decent price. Then just need the antenna.

Amundsen + for this kind of retrofit really is a good call.

Get the right unit you can have OEM DAB radio too.

I loved the unit in my old Mk2 Blackline; in certain respects prefer it to the Amundsen MQB infotainment in my Mk3, slightly less overall functionality but v straightforward to use.

B will work with rSap only but that is ok for your phone as you say and it will interact with your pre FL maxidot.

The antenna can be found separately on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-SKODA-GSM-FAKRA-Antenna-BLUETOOTH-PREMIUM-FSE-UHV-MFD3-RNS510-RNS-510-SEAT-/181129353654

Cheap and the same as OEM if you don't mind waiting (I got mine from here and its fine).

Adam

Yes my phone works with rsap and I like the maxidot integration plus it was a good price so I'm happy. Not sure if the other half's phone supports rsap though...

Thanks for the link. I'm not in a mega rush so will probably buy that antenna. Cheapest I've seen.

The reason I didn't go for the Amundsen is because it doesn't work with pre-fl maxidot. I liked the maxidot integration of the columbus then the bluetooth retrofit is relatively cheap.

Just looked further into rsap with my phone... it does work but I need to root it first.

Buggar. I did have it rooted but recently sent it off for repair so it's unrooted.

Not a big deal but it's a bit of a task on my phone with downgrading etc first... ah well!
