Octavia OEM Bluetooth

Featured Replies

I know this has probably been done to death already, and I have tried using the search but I've been confronted with alot of information but nothing conclusive so here goes.

Im seriously tempted to buy and install OEM bluetooth in my 56 reg Octavia vRS but I want to know for definate which unit is compatiable. Im currently looking at one or two complete kits on ebay and one or two OEM bluetooth boxes on their own with a view to buying the wiring loom seperate.

Car has stream audio head unit and maxidot display.

Integrated Bluetooth

I contacted car systems.pl on eBay, told him what I had and asked him what unit to get......

Only certain units will work on the pre-FL Maxidot cars, the later units tend not to

Thanks. I'll get in touch with this guy and ask him what will work.

Oh, book marked that until I have a little extra money. Really want1

Thread revival time!

I feel like I'm going round in circles with this Bluetooth thing!

Ok. I have a MY08 Pre-FL with retrofit maxidot and (soon to have) retrofit Columbus.

My wish list for Bluetooth is:

Music Streaming

Phone calls

Maxidot integration

Columbus Integration

Is all this possible on the pre-fl?

I have heard that the premium kit can be installed in a pre-fl with a can-bus adapter of some sort so could this be my only option?

Pretty much yes although if you can do without maxidot integration, go 7p6 or 5k0 D or above and it will do the rest for you for all phones. I think the Fiscon non OEM route can do it all but its pricey.

I've gone the canbus adapter route with a premium module on my pre FL 08 plate. Had a few problems with the adapter but have worked with the supplier to get the software updated and it is all good now. PM me if you want to know more.

Adam

Thanks for the help.

Would love to hear more about canbus adapter as the premium Bluetooth would be nice.

There is a version of the metal box BT module that does integrate with Maxidot and, I believe, does audio streaming as well.

Not cheap though. About £150 used on eBay usually.

1Z0 035 729 (C revision, I think for Maxidot, etc.)

I have the 7P6 035 730 J in my o2 fl. And it stream and work 100% with maxidot.

Was yours fitted by skoda? It is properly fixed by coding.

Edit: sorry. Did see now that it was regarding a pre fl.

Pretty sure it doesn't do streaming actually as I looked into this, and I think its the B suffix for pre FL cars.

I'm torn between two units on mine. The 5K0 version C in the estate does not stream bluetooth, but does integrate totally with the maxidot and column stalk. The 7P6 version in the hatchback will stream bluetooth, though I haven't set that up, but there is no integration with maxidot at all......

Mike

The 5n0 c only works in RSap mode though so only certain phones, e.g Nokia, Samsung.

The adaptor costs 120 euros from carsystems.pl (http://www.carsystems.pl/fis-link-can-box-converter-for-red-dot-matrix-fis-and-new-bt-modules,id687.html). It converts the newer maxidot signals from the newer bluetooth units to older signals which can be read by the older maxidot. Thus a newer premium BT module can be installed (and also paired which requires maxidot).

The only thing it can't do is interpret SMS on the maxidot, but it reads them out or displays them on the head unit for newer modules so no real issue there.

It is relatively easy to fit, the hardest bit is getting to the gateway on newer pre FL cars, but once you have it just plugs and plays.

I've been thinking actually. I don't think I'm too bothered about music streaming. I will have the SD card in the columbus for music and will have aux-in should I want to play anything from the phone.

Does your module do text message readout? Is it rsap?

Many Thanks

Phil

Just looked up my phone and my Xperia Z Does support rsap.

One last question (I hope). Does it show on the columbus at all? And if so does the phonebook show on the columbus?

I think we need a list of all the bluetooth controllers, what they do and don't do and what cars they do and don't work on. It's very confusing!

well volunteered ;)

I still need to work out what is best, don't have maxidot in my car (yet Petrol Maxidots seem rare) only got a stream. do i go for a bolero + bluetooth? amundsen plus to go with the MFSW i sorted out a few weeks ago..

so many options :(

I'd go Amundsen+ (make sure it has built in BT though) to replace your Stream. Will give you the easiest instal compared to adding OEM BT module under your seat.

Hehe. I might start drafting something and getting some info together.

One note about the Bolero and Amundsen stereos in a pre-fl... they only work on the new can protocol (BAP I think) so they may not work with your MFSW or any Maxidot retrofit but the Columbus can be reverted to the old canbus system so will work with all functions on a pre-fl car/

That was my reasoning to go for the Colombus and not an Amundsen+.

Phil

There's something I didn't know. Thanks Phil.

I'm going to keep an eye on this as when I eventually get an Octavia, BT integration is something that I'd definitely want to do.

Interesting, CAN Gateway upgrade not sufficient then? mines an 05 so will need a upgrade as i like having my battery with charge :)

Columbus with a suitable BT module then i guess :/

I don't think so as all the other controllers (steering wheel, instruments etc) work on the old protocol so even though the canbus controller would be able to pass the messages on the stereo wouldn't 'understand' them.

It's a good excuse to get a Columbus anyway eh?! I'm just waiting for mine to be delivered.

Phil

so.. what you are saying is i need to replace everything. PLAN!

suddenly this is going to get expensive :p

A 2005 Octavia will need a CAN Gateway upgrade to avoid battery drain. Or....

If you are getting a Columbus, there is a modified firmware available on the internet that overcomes this issue.

Depending upon what else you are planning (OPS, for example) you may want to upgrade the CAN gateway anyway.
